I've always been in favor of public flogging instead of incarceration. It's painful, humiliating, and cheap. You don't get to sit around with other criminals picking up their bad habits, you don't get free bed or meals on the taxpayers dime, and there's no way you're ever going to be proud of your punishment like some people can be proud of "doing time".
