Hey everyone, I've had TWC/RR for a long time and have liked the service. However, my monthly bill is somewhat high, at least it seems to me. Maybe I am totally wrong. Just checked out ATT U-Verse rates. To give some comparison, a 12 mbps down is $39.95 with a one year contract. I'm sure after this, the rates will go up. Also, I think the DSL may or may not be available to me.

Currently, I'm paying around $66 for a 15-25/1.5-2 mbps connection. It works just fine and I like it but I wonder if I should consider alternatives. I spoke to the customer representative and they said there are no promotions I can get. Someone suggested that I say I want to cancel my account and speak to the retention department. Then I should say that I am looking at alternatives if I don't get a promotional rate. I am hesitant to go this route though.

I don't need very fast internet, just something that is good for online gaming, streaming HD movies, etc.

You are just now figuring that you are being bent over backwards for prices for internet/tv in this country? Doesn't even really matter who the provider is either.

I'm paying $83 for 20MB down and a digital cable package. After promotion they charge like $120 with taxes. I call each time and go directly to the cancellation department. When someone there answers they ask why I'm cancelling and I say that it's too much money, I barely watch tv and I mostly use just internet. Then they throw all these bundles at me that I don't need.

In the end I manage to have them take 5 bucks a month off my bill or go with whatever cable + internet package they have running as a promotion. Just keep calling until you get someone that will do something for you.

In my area only Comcast is available. My apartment only gets dsl as an alternative and that's slow as crap, and no fios.

Do it. It works. I haven't paid retail rate on my internet in years. I do this every 6-12 months depending on how long the discount is.

What if you say that you're going to cancel if they don't offer a better deal and they still don't offer the deal? Then you're without internet, at least for a while. Maybe I'm thinking too much, like I usually do.

I paid $34/month + taxes fees for what they claimed was 30Mbps....closer to 10-15Mbps for 2 years. My contract was up and it climbed to $40/month for the same service.

I used to pay around that for Comcast.....I'm currently with Charter. No TV...no bundling. I'm with DirecTV and have no phone service other than cell.

Keep calling until you get someone that will do something for you. They have all these deals for new customers but nothing for people that have stayed with them. It's because they make more money off of us that just stay than new people.

Seems like a rip.

Just moved to Indiana. Canceled FIOS and just got 15/1 internet only from TWC for the wife back in L.A until I buy a house and she moves. $34.99/mo total, supplied my own modem. FIOS was $55 to drop down to 15/5.

20/2 for free in IN :). Boss lives in the apartment above me, so I use his. He's only here 3-4 days a month. Think you can get 50/5 for $64.99/mo here, but I'll survive. Do miss my 85/35 FIOS tho.

No matter what you are paying, it is too high. As rates continue to climb I am left wondering where the breaking point is. When will people finally give up the brain melter and just cancel in droves?

We are currently at ~$120/mo (internet+cable TV) and are just waiting for my lazy ass to get on the roof and install the antenna and cut cable. It's just too expensive. Then I hear about people that pay $150+ and think it's reasonable.

Rates are going up in part because people have been leaving the service. To make up for those lost $$$ the rates across the board have gone up, they've moved service behind component box required points, and then also increased the cost for the boxes. Last article I read on it have the analyst worried about the industry as companies are now seeing a downturn in both tv and internet subscriptions (increased internet demand was supposed to account for tv subscriber losses).

So expect to continue and get really screwed until some bubble pops in the industry.

I pay $125 per month for 30/5 Internet, 3 digital boxes and all channels offered except for the Playboy channel. No contract, no ETF.

Those that have the tripple play bundles often get their deals renewed because companies love keeping customers that have all their services as opposed to extending someone's discount who only has one or two services. I find it much harder every 6 months to bargain with them as opposed to friends who have tv, phone and internet, they always get their promotional deals it seems.

Also, check your company's website for existing customer deals. Sometimes they have them and they are different than what you would get if you call in. Find one of these and call about it and see if they can apply it before your current promotion runs out.

You are. The deal they have on their site right now is $35 a month for 15mbps.

Fuck TWC though. I hate that they're the only provider I can basically use.

Move to Kansas City and get gigabit fiber from Google.

Of course, then you have to live in Kansas City.:(

But with gigabit fiber, you never have to leave the house!:awe:

Triple play is like $99 a month before taxes. So that's like $110 a month after taxes. That's $50 more than what I'm paying just for cable internet.
