Feel like a quick rant about contests.

So...
I was at lunch this Tuesday.

Get a call on my cell..

"Is this Trevor Counceller?"
"Yeah, who's this?"
"My name's ________, I'm calling from _________... you entered a Verizon Wireless Sweepstakes a while ago, correct?"
"Yes."
"Congratulations. You've won."
*flips out*
Basically, told that a few forms had been emailed to me, had to have them signed, faxed out and returned, and I'd leave for a trip to Vegas that weekend. [Lucky, eh? Extremely short notice...]

So.

Get the forms out that day... unfortunately, I'm under 21--in order to stay at the Hotel they booked, my guest [Allowed 1 guest.] has/had to be 21+.

Ask family.
Nope, too short of notice.

Ask friends.
Nope, too short of notice.

So... I keep looking.

Called the Hard Rock Hotel. Asked them if they could make special arrangements so I could attend anyway.

No luck.

Scramble for days trying to work something out.

No luck.

So, today, I had to tell _______ Inc that I wouldn't be able to go because I simply couldn't find anyone on such short notice.

So. I don't get my Vegas trip, and I blew over 15 hours trying to work out arrangements.

Needless to say, I'm angry.

Oh well. I asked them if they could swap it out for something else... [*cough* Gift Certificate to Newegg *cough*]. Nope. I simply forfeited the prize.

That's all, folks. Just felt like venting. So close to an awesome weekend, only to have it slip through my fingers.

This is not a rant about contests, it's a rant about how much your family and friends suck. ;)

Should have posted here first. I'm sure someone would have been willing to meet up with you even if they had to pay their own airfare. Well, I guess that depends on what, exactly, you won.

That'd be a bit closer to the truth.

Also, airfare wasn't the problem--everything was pre-paid, with an exception of taxi/food. :p

Too late now :p And, somewhat doubtful that I'd be allowed to 'meet up' with someone I'ven ever conversed before, let alone met :p

Though it is a rant about lack-of-notice for contest wins.

Meh.

Edit, what I won:

4. Prize: One (1) Grand Prize winner will receive 2 tickets to the concert on the Concert Date, including coach airfare and hotel for one night. (Grand Prize Approximate Retail Value is $1000 for each prize) Prize is non-transferable, non-assignable and not redeemable for cash. Sweepstakes Entities, in their discretion, may substitute a prize (or prize component) of equal or greater value for any reason. Odds of winning depend upon the number of eligible entries received.

It's only one night, but it's 2 days in Vegas, nontheless. Free. Meh.
:brokenheart:

Edit:

It is also worth mentioning that shortly after [4 hours] winning; I got into a wreck. [Not a complete wreck, mind you; but I hydroplaned and my car just kept on gliding. Meh.]

The win kept me from feeling like a complete-and-utter failure.

You should have atleast told your parents to take the prize and try to sell it on ebay.

Exactly ;) I was hoping for a change though [different time, Newegg GC :p], because of the line right afterwards--by no menas would I have been able to sell it though. Heh.
