So I don't want to make this too much of a big deal but I am slightly annoyed.

A livingsocial deal was available in my town for the minor league hockey team. I have been to a couple of games in the past and they were far far from sellouts.

Livingsocial had a deal for riser seats basically right up near the ice. I would rarely ever pay the money for those seats I am not a big hockey fan. Since it was a good deal, I went ahead and bought 3. One for me, my wife and, my son.

I call to confirm my seats and they inform me that they have no seats together. Well that certainly won't work for taking a kid to a game. Basically it feels like bait and switch because technically I can get the seats I purchased if everyone sits by themselves(yeah not going to happen). So my choice was either take the single seats OR 3 seats together in a crappier section.

While the deal is living up to the terms of the agreement, I certainly don't feel it lives up to the intention. If this was going to be the case, they should simply said that there are limited numbers of seats together. Of course they didn't do that because no one would have bought seats knowing they would be by themselves.

So yeah, I am prepared to get flamed here but I doubt many people would want to go to a sporting event and sit by his/her self.

Cliffs:
Used livingsocial to buy three hockey tickets
Call to confirm seats and informed no seats together for section I purchased
Have to take crappier seats for 3 together or split up
I certainly won't be going back.
Flame away

i agree with you. if anything they should make it clear seats might not be next to each other. I mean whats the point of buying more than one ticket if they're all over the place?

Take the kid to the game and we'll keep the wife company for you.

I can't do that, she might like it

I think it was just a smart way for them to get rid of single tickets to be honest. I should have called prior to purchasing so I know it is my mistake. I just expected better from a team that should want to keep putting asses in the seats. This isn't the way to do it.

Did the fine print say anything about specific seating? Or did it just say open/random seating in that section?

Had nothing about seating that I can find. But when you purchase you get one certificate per seat(so in this case I got three certificates). So inherently there is no guarantee the seats would be together. That is why I am not raising hell about it.

I just think it was an underhanded way to get rid of single seats(just my opinion).

do people really not know what a bait and switch is?

OP I feel for your situation but you did not get baited nor switched. And when I see people throw that phrase around, it lets me know that they have no real complaint and are just grasping at straws.

Per Wikipedia:
In retail sales, a bait-and-switch is a form of fraud in which the party putting forth the fraud lures in customers by advertising a product or service at a low price or with many features, then reveals to potential customers that the advertised good is not available at the original price or the list of assumed features is different. The use of this term has extended to similar situations outside of the marketing sense.

I was sold "riser" seats. Basically the front section. I paid for my tickets. Money was withdrawn from my account. When I go to get my seat assignments, I was told there were no seats together in the "riser" section and I would have to get LESSER VALUE seats for them to be together.

I think it is pretty much in line with bait and switch. The only difference is that there was no guarantee of seats together. However, most people would expect when purchasing multiple seats that they would be together especially when purchasing sporting event tickets.

EDIT: And like I said, I am not making a huge stink about this because it isn't worth my effort. I just doubt I will spend my money there again unless my son ends up being a huge hockey fan. The end of the story is lesson learned on my part.

Were you promised seats that were together? Was it ever implied? Or did you assume?

I'm not doing this to be mean, I'm doing it to try to help you and everyone. Advertising is a dirty game. Its complete and total bullshit that businesses are allowed to advertise like they are. But that doesn't change the fact that that is how business is done. If you assume and don't ask questions, then you will get bit.

The confusion for me is that low ball advertising like that usually offers a "step". A product slightly more expensive but one that will offer everything you want. You didn't mention a step, you mentioned a step down. That's odd.

I know it sucks but they didn't do anything wrong.

most times when getting tickets it tells you that the seats won't be together. usually if buying together you want err together.

Personally i would call and complain.

Any place that sells multiple tickets for any event, it's ALWAYS implied that seats are together unless otherwise stated.... What's the point of buying multiple tickets if they are not together?

I guess I'm not following to well when you said there are no seats together. Do you mean that there were none together because you got there late and everyone else took those seats and only single ones here and there were available? Or are riser seats like one seaters with 20 ft spaced between each one?
