Feeding fan tach signal to motherboard

I want to use a Sunbeam Rheobus Fan Controller to control the fans for my case and CPU cooler.

Since the fans plug into the back of the controller instead of on the motherboard, I lose the ability to monitor their speed.

Is it possible to use an external controller such as this but somehow feed the fan tach signal to the motherboard?

IDK...You could check the web page of Everest or Speedfan and see what they say.

I have a Sunbeam and a Vantec in use. I don't monitor the fan rpm with either. With the Vantec the CPU's fan is hooked up to the mobo jack so it's rpm is reported.

The link you posted shows a price that is a bit much. Shop around and the Sunbeam Rheobus can be had for < $10. I bought three from Xoxide for $7.25 each on clearance sale.
Jab-Tech.com has them in silver and black at $9.95.

I don't know if the monitoring wire could be hooked up to a mainboard jack and the rpm picked up that way. Someone will come along and set us stright, i guess. Sorry.

Yes, you can do this. There is a cable that goes to all three. IE splits where it comes out of the fan, and has two wires going to the fan controller, and then just one wire (RPM detect) going to another connector, which goes to your mobo. I'm looking for them, but can't find them, but I got two that came with my Hardcano 13.

Then this should be easy to do.

With a very small slot screw driver, push down the locking tab for the pin in the fan shell, slide out the tach wire. Then install it in an empty three pin fan shell. Plug the one wire to the motherboard fan jack. Just be sure, if the little locking tab got pushed flush to bend it up again so it takes ahold in it's new shell.

Dawned on me....That's why some high output fans come with only a yellow and black wire in a large 4 pin Molex, then only one blue wire in a three pin fan shell. DOH!

I got one on my Volcano 7+.

Red and Black wires on one 3-pin header go from the fan to the controller. Yellow wire goes to the motherboard on its own 3 pin header.

Im not great with the technical terminology which should be used here but what you ask is very easy to achieve, Im just hopeless at explaining :)

Thanks for the links on where to find the connectors. You would think at 45 cents apiece, I'd be all set, but then they slam you with $8.00 shipping!

Does anyone know if RadioShack sells these connectors? I haven't yet tried any local computer shops.

What! Do we have to shop for you? Your wife doesn't post here, get her to do it :D

Seriously, JCKC the city in your profile just might have a CompUSA B&M store or a BestBuy.
Buy fan extensions if you must and use those shells/wires. Save all you don't use, like the male ends, they will come in handy someday.

Yes, I have a CompUSA right down the street (same parking lot as Radio Shack!). I'll make it a plan to hit both tomorrow to see what I can find.

SVC will ship First Class Mail uninsured to save you money, but you have to ask for it and be willing to assume all shipping risk. I think jab-tech will ship that way too. Unfortunately CompUSA doesn't generally sell stuff like that - they'd rather sell you a cable with a jewelry store markup on it...

Yes! you are right Zepper but CompUSA will give instant gratification :D

JCKC, SVC is located in the SF Bay area, Jab-Tech just moved to OK. You would have it in the mail on Wendsday because of this Holiday weekend at the latest. I bet Jab-Tech will ship on Saturday. My last order with them was boxed on a Sunday, then shipped Monday morning.
J-T will not charge tax and SVC might.
