Hello all. Today is the day. I will start puchasing the components. I will be building (hopefully) a high end machine that will be used for business, database and web development, and home video editing. It's important that this machine has plenty of juice and video power.

What do you think? I may not be buying from TigerDirect so don't flame me on that. =) Just using these links as a point of reference.

Any suggestions? I won't be doing any serious gaming on this machine so I didn't think that AGP video v.s PCI was all that important.

Motherboard:
MSI K8NNeo4 Platinum SLI Socket 939 ATX Motherboard / PCI Express / Audio / Dual Gigabit LAN / USB 2.0 & Firewire / SATA / RAID

Nice....everyone is gonna have their opinions on what board to get, the MSI is a nice choice though. I would consider some OCZ value or some corsair value for your memory instead of what you have chosen.

No the Ultra is cheap, but it is also not the best stuff in the world. Ultra will work without a doubt, I just woldn't go with that memory as nice as the rest of your equiptment is.

Everything looks good...but not the CPU, 4000+, I never considered it worth it, a 3700+ or an X2 3800+/4200+ would be a better choice. Also as someone else suggested, get better ram.

Have you considered an X2 CPU? It will not offer any performance advantage in current single-threaded applications, but if the software you currently use is mult-threaded or you do a lot of multitasking you would benefit from a dual-core CPU. You could check out this article to help determine wether or not you would benefit from a dual-core CPU.

As for the motherboard choice, why exactly did you choose an SLI mobo? First of all you said you will not be doing any serious gaming on the machine so putting two 6800GT's in SLI doesn't make any sense. Even if this machine was meant for serious gaming you would still be better off buying a non-SLI mobo and getting a single 7800GTX which would be overall cheaper and better. If you were planning on adding another 6800GT later you would be better off selling your 6800GT when the time comes and buying a different card. I would suggest getting something like a Chaintech VNF4 Ultra since it does not seem like youi will be doing any overclocking and it is a good, cheap and stable board. It also lacks firewire, so something like the EPOX 9NPA+Ultra may be a better choice. The Epox is also not a bad overclocker either.

As for the video card choice, I wouold suggest a X800XL. It performs just as well, but is $250 at Monarch Computers. As for RAM just get some cheap Corsair VS or something.

i aggre with teh dual core advisory, if you're not gmaing, then you probably will tend to be doing lotsa stuff at once.

(just so i understand it correctly, if i was doing web dev, sound editing and photo editing all at the same time, i would DEFinatley benifit fro ma duall core, rgiht?)

Excellent advice. The main difference, for your purposes, between the Chaintech VNF4 Ultra and MSI NEO4 NF4 Platinum is that the MSI will have better documentation.
