I built a website for my former employer. Recently, they have been referring people to me to build sites for them. That is the only website I've built for somebody else, but I've fooled around doing personal pages quite a bit.

A local motel contacted me about a website. The owner doesn't really know much about websites, but he seems to just want some information about his motel and lots of pictures. It will probably be all static HTML, but there will most likely be some basic perl and javascript involved.

What should I charge him? Should I charge for the whole project or hourly? Keep in mind I have little professional experience.

Personally, I charge by the hour. I like the idea of getting paid by the hour. They way, I'm not over or under paid. I've never had a customer say they wanted a flat fee.

If you're uncomfortable with how long it may or may not take you, set a flat fee and work like mad to get your labor under that amount. Nothing bites like having to work above and beyond what you're getting paid.

If you'd like to see what kind of work I do and how much I charge, check out the website link in my profile.

Good luck on doing the site. You can PM me if you have any more questions.
