Feds order California marijuana dispensaries to close

The feds have begun a crackdown on marijuana dispensaries in California, telling stores they must close within 45 days - even though medicinal weed is legal in the state.

The move was seen as the Obama administration's pushback against the medical marijuana industry, The Associated Press reported. Sixteen states have legalized pot for those who have a prescription from a doctor.

Federal prosecutors in California sent strongly worded letters to 16 pot shops or their landlords. The Associated Press got copies of letters sent to a dozen dispensaries in the San Diego area.
D:😡

F you Obama.

Oh no, more Americans will have to get jobs now.

I knew there was a catch to this whole job policy thing.

The idiocy of this is beyond understanding. The cities were finally starting to make money off weed, which people will smoke anyway. Anyone can get a prescription for pain pills which are a lot worse and anyone that wants pot for recreational use can still get it. Now the cities will just make no money off it. The only people this will really effect outside of the club owners are the people that aren't part of any drug culture and need marijuana to medicate themselves. Like people with cancer, the elderly and veterans. These definitely sound like the kind of people we need to crack down on. I'm sure many people will deny this but I have plenty of first hand knowledge on this subject and I can tell you that many people on the edge of despair have had their lives repaired with the use of cannabis products. Smoking it is second now to the incredible edibles, drinks, topicals and pills that have been created in this recent boon. Now the government will make getting thc through better methods than smoking it much harder and they will make it difficult to get for the people that need it most. Feelsbadman.

Smart thing to do in difficult economic times - close down legitimate businesses in favour of illegal counterparts.

I still don't get how this falls under Federal Jurisdiction, isn't it a state matter?

Also why did they only target 16 shops? That's a tiny fraction of dispensaries.

Federal law supersedes state law and according to federal law weed is illegal.

A lawyer who represents the dispensary Marin Alliance for Medical Marijuana, said its landlord got slapped with one of the letters Wednesday, and it said harsh federal penalties could be in play for selling drugs within 1,000 feet of schools, parks and playgrounds, The Associated Press reported.
Could be those places were targeted because of that issue.

Also <--- P&N. 😛

I found this with a quick google:

http://blog.420petition.com/us-mari...l-allow-cities-to-ban-marijuana-dispensaries/

Terrible news for California marijuana dispensaries this evening: Governor Jerry Brown has caved to pressure from anti-marijuana municipalities and signed a law that will give cities the power to do whatever they want with marijuana dispensaries regardless of their compliance with the state’s medical marijuana law.

The bill, AB 1300, was passed by the legislature on August 15 as an apparent response to lawsuits by marijuana dispensaries that challenged the regulatory authority of the the city of Los Angeles. The law essentially allows local governments across California to decide how, when and where dispensaries can operate.

But the power goes far beyond mere “regulation,” cities will be able to use targeted laws to ban dispensaries outright. They will be able to raid and shut down marijuana businesses over claims of “public nuisance” and file criminal or civil claims against anyone found violating whatever draconian ordinances they pass.
So could be help from the feds that Cali is getting.

maybe they cracked down on everything out of nancy pelosi's district to give that bitch's supporters a state-wide monopoly.

What worries me is that previously all indications were that the government would be lightening up on the marijuana busts. Why make this about face now? I cant really see the sense in it.

They are mostly focusing on the dispensaries that are operating as 'for profit'.

By law, they cannot make money...but yet a few people who own these places are getting very rich. That is what the feds are after.

Yup, the cartels are probably jumping for joy over this shit.

I really hope Obama is just waiting for his second term before doing anything about marijuana. Legalizing it now would only cost him votes.

Well obviously they have to make some money. How do some places make more money than others? What about the pharmacies that are getting very rich?

It's this kind of ridiculous false hope that gives Obama a shot at a second term. Don't get me wrong, if I were an American I would rather shoot myself in the testicles than vote for the comically retarded republicans. But even a die-hard lefty would have to agree that on most fronts Obama has been a complete and utter failure, and this is just another example. All this despite the Dems holding a majority in both houses of the legislature for the first two years of his term.

It's going to literally take an act of Congress to legalize marijuana. You might as well forget it until then. As long as the feds declare it illegal it's going to stay illegal. States' rights died with the CSA.

And it needs to be legalized for recreational use, like alcohol.

I am disappoint, part of Obama's platform was he was going to instruct the DEA to leave the Cally MJ industry alone, what a lie, then he pops on the $.80/pack on cigs to fund some insurance for kids program and since most who smoke reside in the lower income bracket it wound up being a tax on the poor or lower middle class, no vote from me next time around buddy, you blew it IMO..

i'm sure this will really stop the stem of weed. really big government? you haven't realized it's a waste of time yet?

If it so chooses, the feds can override state laws.

Federal law supersedes state law and according to federal law weed is illegal.

No. That's what has made our country free and great.

See:
US Constitution said:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Don't forget it.
