Alright,

Here's the deal: I recently decided to ditch my slow ass Windows 2K install(can't find the CD to reinstall) and move to Fedora Core 9. I decided to do this because my processor is decently decent(Dual Core 3800+ witha fat ass heat sink) and I am into science and engineering. I was just wondering what utilities and programs you thought were most useful for the transition. I should be downloading and installing it tomorrow. Any advice for a relative newbie(I've used Ubuntu for awhile) is appreciated.

Besides the fact that I'd probably stick with Ubuntu (well, really, I'd use Debian myself) it's hard to say without knowing what you want to do with the box. All of the basics will be covered by a desktop install and whatever you have to do to get non-free codecs working in Fedora.

As Nothinman said, what do you want to do? If you don't know the answer to that, we can't tell you what to look at that does what you don't know what you want to do...

So, given that, I would look at Sourceforge if you are just in general looking for things....
