Fedora Core 4 media players

I just recently installed Fedora Core 4 on an Inspiron 4000 laptop. I'm looking to get more familiar with its structure as we run RH Enterprise at work. I'm using it as a full-blown server, but in the process I'm also using it as a client machine while I learn (eg, posting here on it right now).

In the process I've tried to run some media files (eg, .mpg) and some of them don't work, probably due to codecs. I am using the built-in Totem Movie Player and I've installed 1 codec thus far for video:

gstreamer-ffmpeg from http://stentz.freshrpms.net/rpm/totem-xine

Any suggestions?
