I received an item for overseas via FedEx in 3 days no problems but their ground service is a disaster.

Saw this and it reminded me of this thread
/Fedex is not unionized, lots of disgruntled employees doing bare minimum
Especially in December, I've seen UPS trucks out past 8PM...From what I understand, it's much worse. Fedex uses a fuckton of what they term "contractors" for delivery drivers. This means the driver is in a Fedex uniform, drives a Fedex truck, but is an "independent contractor" and is only responsible for delivering however many packages he/she feels like. They're paid per package delivered, so when he/she feels like they've done enough, fuck the rest. Back they go and they'll have some bullshit exception. These "contractors" used to be only found in rural areas, but their use has expanded dramatically over years.
UPS's drivers, on the other hand, are fully vested employees and deliver until their respective truck is empty.
The difference in philosophy shows......
I was behind a fedex van this morning and one of the doors flew open when he took off at the light, was trying to get his attention somehow but he eventually noticed it after 10 minutes or so, maybe your package is on the side of the road somewhere.

That was back in 1998 and RPS was officially labeled FedEx Ground in Jan 2020. That almost 22 years back. This all started when Fedex bought out Roadway Package Systems (RPS) which was all sub-contractors and renamed it Fedex ground.

Fedex Ground for me was fine until 2010-2012. I used to sell some things on eBay back then and FedEx Ground was cheaper than UPS and even the post office for cross country packages.
I know they seem to be crap now but up until 8-10 years back, for me they were fine. Never had one issue with them.
Americans can't draw a circle? :awe:I’m waiting on a glass filter from China. It’s pretty ridiculous; the filter glass is made in the US by a Japanese company and sent to China to be cut into circles and sent back.
Can't say this is true or not, but I have seen UPS drivers running out of their pick up trucks with bed covers on recently, they WERE in a ups uniform though. From what I understand, it's much worse. Edit: what I mean is maybe they don't have enough trucks?
Same here. Had something delivered the other day from Reverb (a guitar) via UPS and the guy was in a U-haul.I've seen them, uniformed, driving U-hauls.
Today I saw a guy in my neighborhood making Amazon deliveries in a white Hertz rental van.
The last couple I received over the last year, they just handed me. I asked about the signature and they said not needed, they enter it as something covid related.A guy on a car forum I visit regularly said fedex left a rifle outside his house without bothering having him sign for it. I’ve had them just leave wine without having me sign for it as well despite the clear warnings on the package that it’s alcohol and needs a signature.
I had a $350 package come a couple of weeks ago, UPS, Signature Required. I waited around all day for the twerp, finally showed just after 6PM. Said no signature due to the bug, just had to see a person to accept the package. The last couple I received over the last year, they just handed me.
