I believe the USPS and FedEx have enter into a joint venture where you will be able to send FedEx right from you local PO. They must need that extra 3 cents to pay for that I guess.

Yeah, I work at the main USPS processing center in Orlando - there is a brand new FedEx facility right across the street from us. Anyhow, we are doing collections for them, they are transporting some of our mail via their extensive air network.

The only reason that I mention any of this is that I had ordered several items from newegg.com on Sunday. The order was shipped out in two packages Monday night/Tuesday morning. Needless to say, the packages sat for several days, then bam! as soon as air traffic was permitted, my stuff was to my door the next day.

I mailed out another package to a fellow ebayer tonight (Sat.) and the window clerk couldn't tell me what we were doing to transport our mail. As soon as I was able to get to a computer, I checked our website to see what we were doing. Thus the posting.

Hope this helps someone.

I know this is OT but does it cost anything to have an account w/FedEx and have them come pick up your packages? I know it cost $7 - $11/week for UPS to do that? Thanks,

It does not cost anything to have UPS come and pickup your package as long as its 2-day air or better, I've done it several times (and I have a regular personal account that anyone can sign up for on their web site):

UPS Pickup Request

FedEx's pickup page looks similar (no mention of cost), never used it myself tho:

I too work for the USPS, and the agreement with FEDEX is will save the USPS money on its transportation costs and hopefully help keep the cost of postage in check.

The USPS has been delivering mail throughout this ordeal with the exception of the area in NY and DC that were directly affected by the !@#$terrorists

Bring it on...

In the back of the paper on 9-12-01 was an article on how the postal rates are going up to 37 cents

I heard about the proposed increase. The process takes around a year to complete IF they are approved. Even though the rate MAY increase, it is still of of the hottest deals to be able to mail a letter safely and quickly from one end of the country to the other for thrity some odd cents.

You can't even drive 1 mile to your local bak to pay a bill for 34cents. (bases on the average cost of driving a car)

they should make us stamps that have a few more cents tagged on to help the folks out and fight terrorism. It would add up quick.

We do not have daily UPS pickup service and have never paid a pickup charge for UPS with any service that they offer including standard ground service as long as you schedule the pickup one day prior to your shipment. Air pickups can be picked up the day of the shipment at no charge as well. This does not apply for Internet scheduled shipments through the UPS website.. The number is 1-800-PICK-UPS option 2. It is ironic that the UPS shipping rates for UPS picked up shipments are less than the rate that they charge at UPS manned customer counters.
