I've been trying to figure out how to reschedule some FedEx deliveries while I'll be on a work trip. I went to FedEx.com to see what I could do. So far I think I've blown $20 and accomplished nothing.

Thing started off pretty good. I learned that FedEx offers free vacation holds. So I registered for FedEx delivery manager. After registering, I couldn't login. I tried to register repeatedly and gave up. The next day, I tried to login and it worked. They must have some sort of lag between registering and being able to login.

Great, now I can use their delivery manger to schedule a free vacation hold. The delivery manager did not show adjusted delivery dates for any of my packages, but given how my registration went, I wasn't expecting instant updates. I checked back the next day and the dates still aren't changed in the delivery manager or on the package tracking pages. A quick Google search gives me some evidence that the vacation hold doesn't work. I found several stories of people who had packages delivered during their vacation hold.

Not wanting to risk my packages being delivered while I was gone (it's supposed to rain), I paid $5 for each of my 4 packages to have the delivery rescheduled to Friday Dec 12. The delivery manager still doesn't show any update, but the tracking information now says my packages will be delivered on April 6th, 1918. Sigh.

I tried to call customer service. After getting through their horrible menu system, it got to the point where it dialed a customer service rep. After waiting in hold, the rep immediately hung up on me without saying a word. I called back, waded through the menus again, got put on hold again, and then got immediately hung up on again.

I'm kind of in disbelief at how bad everything has gone. To recap:
- registration is broken
- vacation hold doesn't work
- the delivery manager doesn't show updates
- paying to reschedule my package resulted in my packages being delivered 96 years ago
- I can't get a service rep on the phone

I had to the same thing for a UPS package. I was annoyed that UPS didn't offer free vacation hold, but at least their $5 rescheduling was instantly reflected on my tracking information.

That is insane!

Sounds as bad as the crappy USPS. I placed an intercept or whatever the hell it's called to have the package sent back to me. Cost me around $10. It went all the way to the east coast to the person that bought my CPU and never once intercepted the package. I wanted the intercept done because I forgot to add insurance and this was over $250 CPU going all the way to the easy coast from Colorado. At least the buyer got the damn thing. If he filed a case on me I would have been fucked!
