Well not exactly institute. Fed-Ex bought Roadway Express which was started by Roadway, the industrial freight company, to try to wrestle the stranglehold that UPS seems to have on small package delivery both business and residential.

There were a few bugs at first, but Fed-Ex has the resources and market presence to have killed most of the bugs, but they still have a long way to go in terms of consumer recognition. Most people still think UPS for small, medium and large residential packages, and Fed-Ex for overnight delivery of documents and tiny packages.

fed ex ground is pretty good...cross country shipments take only 4 days vs. 5 days UPS (mon-fri instead of mon-mon) which is cool. and they're significantly cheaper for heavy shipments vs. UPS. but they can never find my apartment for some reason. home also delivers on saturdays awesome! unfortunately there's no fedex ground center near my house...:(

FedEx International is still relatively cheap also. 50kg, 140x650x140mm,(42" plasma in crate) Taipei to WashDC, ~$(US)500.

FedEx pwns UPS.
