Shipped a computer today, 36 pounds with packaging.

UPS quote: $23.50
Fedex quote: $11.50

Hmm..who do I pick? :D Dur!

Too bad I had to drive 10 miles through rush hour traffic to get to it. Not many staffed locations around me.

That seems way out of whack. Dimensions? Weight? Zone?

FedEx Ground shipping is great. Not only are their rates great, but if you ever have to file a claim, their response is wonderful. I shipped a CD carousel back in December to a purchaser. The item was damaged during shipment. FedEx paid me the price of a new carousel and reimbursed me for the shipping fees within a month of making the claim. It was a very painless process. I hear UPS isn't so fun when it comes to making a damage claim.

Rates are competitive, and claims everywhere IMHO are equally stressful.

UPS spent 3 months paying out and they only did so because my account rep called the claims adjuster and spoke with him personally about the situation.

USPS took forever, I mean 2-3 months passed before I saw anything.

Actually I fudged on the dimensions. It was actually a bit larger now that I look at mmy measurements, 30x12x36. for some reason UPS called that oversized and counts it at 67 pounds billable rate. Fedex doesnt do that if the package is more than 30 pounds.

OS2 will do that on something that large.

Fed-Ex Ground rules compared to UPS. Faster cheaper, and generally nicer people at the location.

There's something in those brown uniforms that makes the UPS people grouchy and want to damage boxes.

My fedex ground guy isn't as good as my UPS guy that services my area. FedEx guy drop kicks boxes out of back of truck or tosses them out. UPS guy gets a cart, puts them carefully on the cart, wheel them to the final destination.

That's because UPS already drop kicked the boxes when they were loading the truck for delivery.

Maybe they werent drop kicked.

Last week when driving to work along one of the section line roads (outlying area, 2 lanes, speed limit about 50) there was a huge traffic hold up. When I finally got up there, there was a UPS truck laying on its side with boxes strewn all over the road and ditch. When I got to the neighborhood I was working in, just about 1/2 mile up, there was another UPS truck broke down in the neighborhood, in front of someones house. They had another UPS truck backed up to it, and were launching the boxes from one to the other, trying to make up time.

I was tempted to drive home and get my digicam, but I was already running late, and I figured it would really piss off the UPS guy to have me out there taking snapshots of his mishap.

I Like UPS.. As a shipper, they offer a lot of tools to make my job much easier. I may look @ Fedex in the future, but overall, UPS does a lot to help businesses..

That they do. I love my software. I dont even need to go to the website or get the book to get a quote. Also, I like all the free labels they give me.

I placed a huge order for supplies, they double-shipped me! I have enough rolls of labels for 2 companies. :D

Yes it is that cheap! Most think of Fedex Express Saver as "ground", but earlier this year they actually instituted a ground method which is complete shipped via trucks. It's hella cheap.

I lately started to use FedEx for 90% of my shipments. In many instances FedEx Ground is even cheaper than USPS (that's including insurance and tracking number), as well as I can print out labels online and not spend time in line in the post office.

From at least 60 packages I shiped so far in the last few months I haven't had a problem at all.
