Sorry to see such a beautiful laptop go before it's time. My T41p is still running strong so I'm not inclined to upgrade yet.

I had a box returned back to me (return to sender) apparently it sat at some Fedex station for a week or whatever their policy is. Anyway apparently something had peirced through the entire box and the computer inside (went through the sheetmetal and all, is somebody shipping steel spikes or something?!). I'll tell you that claim was a pain in the arse because they didn't want to cover the insurance since it was not picked up by the recipent (not my fault of course). I swear there was no way a driver/station worker could have missed it either as it pierced right through the barcode on the shipping label (so they would have to had manually entered it).

If Fedex screws you at least IBM will replace it, as you said you have their uber-warranty

Its not IBMs fault for the damage, its fedex. Why would IBM/Lenovo fix 1000 dollar screen and a 200 dollar port replicator and eat the damage. They will say negligence or something else and kick it out of warranty. Get the money from fedex and buy a better laptop.

It's called accidental damage coverage. And just what exactly would be a "better laptop" than a top of the line Thinkpad? This is for a corporate environment, so no boutique BS.

A IBM Thinkpad T43 or an X41

:D We have a eval T43p here as well. And I would take a T42p over a plain T43. We actually deploy X40's and T42p's at this point, however once I build our image, we are moving to the X41's. Only a matter of time before we move to the T43p as well.

On the line with IBM, they're going to fax me a repair estimate to give to Fedex.

$895 + tax for the repair. So well within the $2000 of coverage I shipped it with :)

I just had a whole screen and motherboard replaced on one of our Dells here at work through the Accidental Damage warrantee. Someone dropped it and cracked the screen and bent some of the ports, so they came and replaced it all under warrantee.

This laptop I packed and shipped from our Seattle office down to our Santa Monica office. It arrived just fine. As it turned out, the user who was getting it was still going to be in Seattle till September, so I shipped it back. Same box and everything.

Makes me sad. 2ghz Centrino, 1gb DDR, 60gb 7200rpm, ATI FireGL T2 :(

Get a rope!

Ouch...:(
