They should just use the bubble sheet scan ballots.

They are as about as idiot proof as you can make them, and leave a paper trail. And if you get more turnout it is easier to expand voting by setting up more tables instead of suddenly needing more electronic voting machines.

Then the election night voting tally done by machine should stand unless evidence can be presented of fraud or malfunction. None of this counting and recounting the ballots after we know the election is close.
