You just happened to do it when Nik hacked AT and gained administrator access.

subatomic particle physics is almost completely circumstantial. circumstantial evidence is anything that wasn't directly observed by the witness, that allows the witness to infer that something happened. with particle colliders you don't actually see the particle that was created, you see what it did. that action allows you to infer that either the particle was there or not, or to narrow down competing hypotheses.

Id say that subatomic particle physics is a bit of an exception to the rule: because of quantum probability and all, its practically a given that it will be circumstantial, thats just the way reality works at that level. But I wouldnt even go that far, considering the equations and such that describe the phenomena. Either way, the evidence in question is the quarks/gluons created in the collision, and Id say measurement of those is quite empirical.

Ah, in case you havent noticed, evolution/creationism is like an OT favorite. We get a new one every week, every week I dive head first into them, and every week I am taken aback by the ignorance, futilily trying to convince the ignorant, not recognizing that everyone has already made up their own minds, and no one is listening because they already know theyre right.

edit: just read your posts 😛
I actually agree with everything you said.

The only way you can directly observe something is to touch it. Seeing something is indirect as you rely on an intermediate transmission of information. You don't see the dog, you see the light from the dog. Would you say you directly observed an accident if you saw it in a mirror? Does the reflection of light make it indirect now? Because reflection is very similar to refraction, and light refracts in air all the time. How about two mirrors? What about if you take a picture?

But of course! 😛 The only difference is that I, along with those who actually recognize how accurate evolution is in describing the variety of species, are actually right. 🙂

Well technically, when you touch the dog, the signal is transmitted through your nervous system, which is somewhat indirect as well. But to be more precise, we must first more fully define what "you" are, what a "dog" is, and given those difficulties, we must also grapple with the fact that we have not yet fully even understood consciousness and the mind/body problem, thereby making it impossible to prove anything but your own existence, and even that is suspect.

I really dont know what it is, I can't help myself. Ive always been interested in the subject, and unlike a lot of people, Ive read so much about this stuff that I cant help fight the ignorance. So much to the point that Ive gone back to school just to study biology, and hopefully in a few years, Ill be a full fledged scientist working towards solving these "unexplained gaps" rather than just talking about them. I plan on working on biogenesis, because its about time we bridged that gap. Then not only can I help end that silly misconception, I can throw credentials around too. 😛

Ah. I just got done with lvl2. bio(aka plant and animal biology). So did you take that course yet and learned what the gap between two pores on a sponge is called? 😛

Nope, the radial canal.
Yeah they make you memorize the most ridiculous inane stuff in bio 🙁

I dont think they went into that much detail. In my school, lvl 1 bio is split into three:

Eco/Evo/Botany/Zoo (where we learned about sponges), Molecular/Cell/Genetics, and Physiology. After that, its all electives. I personally wanted to slit my wrists during the zoology lectures, just one damn fact/structure after another that will be promptly forgotten, with nothing to tie it all together.

This ruling has been an UNDENIABLE answer to my prayers to the Lord Almighty!
This is incontrovertible proof that He listens and acts for His faithful like myself.
All glory be to God for this great victory.

My next prayer will be for the collapse of the Catholic church.
When that's accomplished I am going to pray for the exclusive rights to the image of the Christian cross and I will use
the resulting avalanche of funds to build a staircase to Heaven so I can thank Him in person for hooking me up.

Don't fsck with prayer, bitches.

Now republicans are flip flopping.

Santorum Distancing Himself From Intelligent Design Law Firm
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,179507,00.html

Sen. Rick Santorum says he intends to withdraw his affiliation with the Christian-rights law center that defended a school district's policy mandating the teaching of "intelligent design."

Santorum, the Senate's No. 3 Republican who is facing a tough re-election challenge next year, earlier praised the Dover Area School District for "attempting to teach the controversy of evolution."
