Another one of these

"They" have fighter jets? piloted by who? Tanks? driven by who? Helicopters? Driven by who? The government doesn't have shit, the military is of the people, people that are not going to be launching JDAMs at their own neighborhood.

But...but on TV all the GI's run around like robots with no brains and hearts and do what the evil general tells them They shoot civilians when ordered without question. This would be the same in real life, duh!

I have determined we really dont need these threads at all.
They never reach an intelligent conclusion. We just keep rehashing the same arguments over and over again.
Not to mention we slip into emotional confrontation a little faster each time around.

Happens on any topic where one side brings facts and the other brings emotion every time.

Yeah but in gun threads both sides start with facts and then quickly degenerate to logical fallacies.

Yeah but in gun threads both sides start with facts and then quickly degenerate to logical fallacies.

Point out where I have made logical fallacies :) I also try not to make posts based off pure emotion or opinion without a preface for those. Meaning I state, "The following is my opinion or belief..." and then I usually also state "... and this is why I believe that."

But just stating facts doesn't mean you are bringing any weight into an argument. For example, I could state that dogs give birth to puppies in this thread. That's a fact right? It's a fact that doesn't have any baring on the argument or the original topic though. Still I can then twist that fact to make an argument fit such as. "And because dogs give birth to puppies, who are so cute, that people with guns can shoot them in the face is monstrous. I mean think of all the puppies!!"

Many typical posters do what I've described above. They may make a statement about a fact, which more than likely doesn't have any bearing, and then use an emotional appeal for their argument or a logical fallacy using that fact(s). I see it all the time in the P&N threads unfortunately. I won't lie though as I sometimes find it humorous that people would actually post that way and believe it. Which means at times I find it entertaining to read as one might be entertained by watching a crazy person on the street for a moment. I laugh, shake my head, point my finger, and then try to have a real conversation with those actually willing to do so.

I hate to be the one to say it, but there is an obvious example of the US Government ordering US troops to attack other US Citizens and kill them. It happened sometime around 1864...give or take a few years.

Hasn't happened since so I am willing to bet that we learned from that mistake. Willing to bet my life on it....probably not.

I brought it up simply to show that it can happen, since it has happened already. The government would have to do a bit of work to create a situation where the soldiers were willing to do it again, though. Not sure if it is possible, but I do not put any limits on the government's ability to spread lies and create situations.

I posted the same thing you've posted here...20 pages ago probably.

To what do you refer, Sherman's march to the sea?

But I thought P&N was solving the world's problems one thread at a time! No one tell Craig234 it isn't true, it would crush him.

I'd already solved them, but I saw some kid on my lawn and after yelling at him I forgot what they were.

Yeah, did you hear about last week where that guy in Ohio went around his school stabbing people with a sharpened pencil? Last I heard he killed two people and injured two more. I mean it is definitely just as easy to kill someone with a pencil as an glock.... except that you have to get really close and hit them in just the right place with a lot of force rather than point a gun a pull a trigger.

There are plenty of reasons to support guns that are at least somewhat valid but essentially saying that a sharpened pencil is just as dangerous is silly.

I actually used to work with a guy who did 14 years for stabbing and attempting to murder someone with a pencil. He told me it was his preferred shank of choice because you can break it off and take the handle with you.
