Fed Ex are idiots: They left my new processor on my steps in this freezing weather!!!

I've seen a lot of negative threads about UPS, USPS and Fed Ex. We'll this is my rant about Fed Ex. I came home from work just yesterday and I noticed a small package on my step. I knew what it was and I was mad as hell :|:|:| It was my new P3 proc. that I ordered and it was left out in the freezing wind. I live in a shore community, so it can get very windy and cold. I haven't put the proc. in yet, so I don't know if it's damaged. I doubt it though, but it pisses me the hell off. Some one could have easily have stolen the package also, so that just addes fuel towards this incident. Also, the slip stated that a signature was required for the package. But I wasn't even home, so there couldn't have been a signature!

By the way, can cold weather (20 degrees yesterday) ruin a processor? :|:|:|:|
 
That sucks! I hate when they do that!

I don't think your processor would be ruined though. I've seen people with cases colder then that weather LOL. I'd be more worried about the condensation.
 
The processor should be fine.
Unless it was like completely unprotected in the cold wind and wet.

If you put that component into your computer while it was still very cold, YOU are the idiot.

The first 2 responses that came to my mind:

1) Yes, of course FedEx inspects all packages with X-ray machines and they knew that it was a CPU, and yet they decided to leave it out in the cold anyway! Those bastards! The driver had no idea that it was even an electronics component, let alone a CPU, not that the cold could damage the CPU. Just let it warm up to room temperature before plugging it in, and all is well.

2) If FedEx had not left the package, this rant probably would have read something along the lines of: "Why didn't FedEx just leave my CPU on my doorstep. No one is around during the day so it would have been just fine there. Now I don't have my new processor to play with over the weeked, and I will have to wait until next weekend to install it because I will be too busy during the week. I hate FedEx!".

damn dude chill out. its just as cold on your door step as it is in the back of the fex-ex truck. Besides why do you think cold weather is going to hurt your proc??? unless you soak the package in water nothing is going to happen to it.

 
If you don't want any delivery services to leave packages when no one is home just put a note where they will see it saying so.

If the signature required box was checked then the driver made a mistake. They are human.


Rather than complaining why don't you spend a moment to think about how useful it is to have delivery companies that for a reasonable fee will bring things to you ? Without delivery companies the range of products available to you would be pretty limited.


Suppose I order something from newegg in California. First there's a Fedex driver out there then spends all day driving around picking up and delivering packages, rain or shine. Getting in and out of their vehicle over and over and over. Lugging packages around. Then when they get back to the depot someone unloads the dozens of packages from their vehicle, and does the same thing with all the other vehicles. Then someone else sorts the packages and loads them onto planes, trains, or trucks. Then the operator of that vehicle goes thousands of miles to another Fedex depot where someone unloads the packages, sorts them again, and loads them onto outgoing vehicles. Then the delivery driver spends all day delivering and picking uyp packages, no matter what the weather, the traffic jams,etc, and brings my Newegg package to me.

I think that's cool.

um ppl buy those special refridgerant systems to cool their systems -20 below 0 for overclocking🙂 cold can't hurt it at all. i forgot that fridge systems name gah

I take it you've never seen/heard of a water-cooled peltier system?

ok, the CPU is fine.

but,

how would you know, you never received it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'd do it in a heartbeat.

i've had plenty of these issues with fedex people.
ordering stuff from newegg... i had about 7 boxes waiting infront of my door steps one day.

i came home.. expecting a lil' tag on the door.
but they just dropped 7 boxes in front of my front door.

my jaws dropped when i saw that.
needless to say, i went over to fedex and complained.
the front desk lady actually called over the driver that's responsible for my town.
he and his manager had a little talk. and ever since then, i stopped having this problem.

man... think of all the boxes that disappear.
 
you know, I think $45-60k/year is pretty good money for someone who a) can't figure out how a shipping company works, and b) thinks that wind chill will affect a processor in a box.

I'm sure you'll make a fantastic teacher.
 
do you have neighbors nearby? is your house isolated? fedex used to leave my package on my front porch if its small since i used to live in a quiet neighborhood. i live in an apt now and no way in hell would they even leave anything without me signing for it.

it could have been worse...u could have had UPS destroy your cpu AND leave it on your front stoop.

Besides, how the hell would they even know what they shipped to you? Even with xrays, I highly doubt Intel writes "Intel Pentium 3 Processor" in lead on the box front...
