THE FEC DOCUMENTS describe Democratic fundraisers who set specific prices for foreign nationals to make illegal campaign contributions in return for meetings with then-President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore. A Democratic finance vice chair, for example, said organizers would have to contribute a total of $100,000 in return for Gore?s appearance at a Buddhist temple in Los Angeles.

From the article:

The DNC was fined $115,000, the Clinton-Gore campaign $2,000, and the Buddhist Progress Society $120,000.

Evidently, the FERC didn't think Gore is too much of an underhanded crook, as his and Clinton's penalty is only $2,000. That's the cost of what, an hour or two in the Lincoln Bedroom?

Red and any others, do you believe the US will be taken down by an external enemy or from within?

If the answer is "within" do you believe that the rampant cynicism of distrust in the US, it's government and it's institutions will have any part to play in it's downfall?

Is every really politician dishonest and immoral?
Does spreading unfounded and baseless accusations weaken or strengthen the US?

I'm not saying to not criticize a policy you do not like. I am not saying that we should not keep a very watchful eye on them I advocate both positions to the fullest. I am saying that becoming cynical or tolerating people spreading lies based only on their partisanship is wrong and harmful to us all.

Do you agree or disagree?

Red, before you throw my ancient past in my face I understand fully that I have not always fully abided by this in the past. Everyone can learn from their mistakes, I have learned from mine.

Oh, so we'll blame the cynicism for the fall and not what caused it in the first place. Brilliant :)

Do you think every politician is corrupt? Did the system work in this case in handing out punishments for politicians that were found of wrongdoing?

Are people that say that every politician is a crook and abandon or just complain about the system part of the problem or part of the solution?

Is being cynical the new cool thing to be? Yes, Red I am well aware of your persona on the board but answer the question please, is it helping or hurting the US to label all with the same brush. Do unfounded lies serve our country?

Unfounded lies? Show me one President that you think was not corrupt in our history and I can assure you that you can find an opinion of someone prominent in his time who said he was.

Oh behave Etech, don't try and blame us who are Cynical on the shortcomings of our society.

I think a very good case can be made that Pres. Carter was not corrupt. Actually many of our Presidents and senators and representatives could fit that description. Just because they do something that you do not agree with does not mean they are "CORRUPT".

I am behaving Red and I will let you know when you are appointed my guardian and can give me instructions.

Yes our society has shortcomings. Being cynical and saying every politician is fully and totally corrupt is not the solution and I deeply believe will only lead to much worse problems in the future. Making up lies about politicians and their motives is not the sign of a person who cares about this country and its future.

Generally speaking, it's all the same canvas so why not, generally speaking, use the same brush? Speaking in general, of course. ;)

The esteemed member Russ of this board has been a politician and active in politics.

Who here would like to be the first to post that they think he is corrupt?

jjones, how about you? How wide is your brush? Red, would you be the first to say that Russ is corrupt solely because he is a politician?

Innocent until proven guilty. It's not a new concept.

For the record, from my dealing with Russ from awhile ago, he is a paragon of virtue and was a pleasure to do business with. I'd vote for him.

He's an exception to the rule. On top of that I'd say he was a citizen who held a political office, not a proffesional Politician like those who run our country. Big difference amigo.

BTW, there are verying degrees of corruption based on the laws which are in place. In addition, what was accepted practice 50 to 100 years ago is against the law today and is considered corrupt. What Gore did he did to support his and the Democrat agenda. While it might not have been above the board and is against the law he didn't do it for personal gain. On the other hand, the allegations some are making about Cheney is that what he did was for personal gain. Now this hasn't been proven and I am not going to say he did anything wrong, but if they were to be proven to me his actions would be a 100 times worse than Gores.
