with everything on max except for texture on medium
12 X 10 w/ 4aa/8af
and shadow turned off
i hardly ever dip to 50fps...it seems to always stays above 60fps

when i had shadow on...with only 2aa/4af
i often dip to around 34 fps

fear with 4aa on looks so much better than before
it's worth sacrificing shadow i'd say

I turned off shadows because my own shadow kept getting in the way. I want sn option to turn off the super loud sounds when you step on something. I also keep thinking my own footsteps are someone elses.

as stated in the readme file, soft shadows and aa do not work at the same time:

* The Soft Shadows option will have no effect if the Full-Screen Anti-Aliasing
(FSAA) option is enabled. Also, you may notice odd rendering issues with
shadows in the game if you enable this option while FSAA is enabled
through the Windows(R) control panel.

I found that turning the color settings in the config file to 24bit helped my framerates too and it looks good enough to me.
