Fear My Green (Fungal) Thumb!

It's about time I went out and cut the grass on our perfectly manicured lawn.

But first, I just had to snap some pictures of my current crop of fungi. It's all over the place this month! I snapped the first three pictures last August. This year's aren't nearly as big, but there are MANY more! Behold the fungal jungle!

That's pretty cool! It's not really even the time of year for shrooms yet. Usually the grass is all brown and stuff right now. It's been so wet the fungus is really popping.

Lovely crop of mushrooms. I studied botany at university, with an emphasis in mycology, so I can appreciate your collection.

My collection is no more. Just got done cutting the lawn before the storms hit. I pressed the flesh on a few of them... with my tractor tires! None were blue that I can see.

I'm a little pissed at the poor results of my Scotts Weed & Feed. I put it on a couple weeks ago, while the grass was thoroughly soaked. It didn't rain on the grass till days later, yet most of the weeds are still kicking. How long does it take to work. I put 15,000 sq ft of it on about 12,000 sq ft of lawn, so it was plenty to do the job.

There was a landscaper next door earlier in the season. Nice guy. We were talking, and I was bitching about how hard it is to grow grass in the clay around here. He said clay is fine for the grass, but you have to feed it well. I saw the results of a Scotts application in the spring, but it's not doing much now...

I guess the flat land, clay and lack of sun has a lot to do with the mushrooms and moss growing around here. I'm sure they'll be back!
