FEAR... How do you change refresh rate?

Hi.

How do i change my refresh rate? I cant find the option anywhere. Do I have to change it in the drive?

Also why is their no 1024x1280 resoultion. Im only seeing widescreen resoultions?

Thanks.

Refresh rate options are in your driver settings...

The 1280x1024 resolution i'm assuming you're looking for isn't listed since FEAR only natively supports 4:3 resolutions. 1280x1024 is actually 5:4.

To manually change the resolution to whatever you want, go here:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR

In that folder you'll find a settings.cfg file. Open that with notepad (you may have to associate the file extention with notepad first), & you'll see something like this:

"GammaB" "1.004325"
"GammaG" "1.004325"
"GammaR" "1.004325"
"BitDepth" "32"
"HardwareCursor" "1.000000"
"ScreenWidth" "1600"
"VSyncOnFlip" "0.000000"
"DeviceName" "\\.\DISPLAY1"
"ScreenHeight" "1200"

Now you can change the ScreenWidth/Height to whatever resolution you want.

Save, & it's done 🙂

ah - is there any danger in setting it to that res? Like loss of performance or graphic bugs?

Also - where can I configure my driver so fear plays at a higher refresh? I only see the settings for the desktops refresh rate - cant find any checkmarks that say "apply to games" or something like that.

When you set your system refresh rate, it applies to everything, including games.

Why do you keep asking this?

And yes, customizing the resolution is fine.

I dont think fear is playing at my desktops refresh rate.

My monitor has a weird problem when I play at low refresh rates I can see wavey rainbow lines. Its not that it flickers or anything, its just that I can see these large rainbow effect. (It does it on all 3 types of this monitor i have.) In BF2 I can set the refresh to 65hz and see the lines very clearly. But once i set it to 75 or 85hz, they are gone.

Well I tried it again. I still think its playing in the lowest possible refresh rate. Is there some kind of config file I can edit to change the refresh rate?

I tried googling it. All I have is found is what he is saying. That FEAR runs at the refresh rate of your desktop. Which is not the case.

Please help 🙁

you can force refresh rates . . . if you have an ATi card you can use PowerStrip to get whatever custom resolutions you want [just be careful to stay in spec].

setting both Resolution and refresh rates are done in FEAR's game graphic's options . . . however, a custom resolution will require editing per n7's instructions

I can find no option to change refresh rate inside of FEAR. I have though already custom edited my resoultion.

Yeah, this certainly is an odd one. Good luck with PowerStrip.
I think rainbow efffects would be kinda kewl though 😛
