FEAR Combat not working

I install it fine, but when I try to run it I get the "blah has encountered an error and needs to close" error. I've even downloaded the file and reinstalled but same thing, which makes me think there's something wrong w/ my hardware. I played full FEAR before though so it shouldn't be happening. Is this a known issue that can be fixed? I know it installs some new august version of dx9 could that be the issue?

Buy the game. It's only 20 bucks. But yea, it may be a common issue.

Bah. Double bah!!!

Love the multiplay DM. And so do a boatload of others as there are scads of populated servers out there with juicy pings. Now if you rig can't handle the demands of the game, yeah, it might not be fun.

I DL'd the free multiplay before buying the retail and both have worked. One thing to look at is virus scanning keeping the game from connecting. Happened to me. But that error doesn't seem indicative of a virus checker.

Check your processes running and background apps and close anything and everything that you don't need cause it looks an awful lot like a conflict somewhere.

If you have Kaspersky installed, then it is caused by a conflict with Kaspersky and an August Microsoft Security Update (KB 917422). If you uninstall the security update, the game will work again.

This is correct... I had the same problem with it & also with Prey, neither game would even launch until the security update was removed.
