Hi all,
After recently installing my new EVGA 7900gt superclocked everything ran smooth, no problems with the new driver 84.21. However, when I played FEAR today for the first time since the new install, it crash and reboot my rig automatically, I tried it again and this time it didn't reboot, but studder a bit during the game. When I exited the screen would go blank in and out. I then reboot and everything in normal. I have also played Oblivion, CoD, CoD2, BF2, Farcry, Civ4 for hours with no problem at all.
When the reboot thing occurs it tells me in the report that someting is up with the driver of the video card. The temp of the card never got about 46C in any of the games including FEAR. All other temp are normal and everything is functioning well. FEAR is patched up to 1.03. I can't really think of anything other than the driver issue of the video card and FEAR. Can't really find anything on the web, guess I'll just keep looking.
If anyone have any advice please do tell.....sorry for the long desript....

I have a friend who had similar problems. Try downclocking your memory (considerably). If it works then, you've got a bad card. He had to RMA his and the replacement has worked fine since.

Yeah, right!

Try searching for 7900 freeze.

I second that..eVGA 7900 has been all over the nets about its issue...nothing personal or no troll against the OP. Just check eVGA site...it is virtually impossible to miss the news/issues as big as eVGA is having with its 7900 series cards.

I wonder what the reason is for this insistence that this problem is exclusive to EVGA?

My own research and speculation at this time indicates the Sammy GDR memories

First I would run the "F.E.A.R. Configuration Utility" to make sure that everything in there looks correct (it's in the start menu folder).
If you didn't reinstall FEAR when you put in that 7900 you might want to try that out as well.

I have down clock and it does play fine which is what you just described above. But it only happens with FEAR and no other games that I have like Oblivion, BF2, CoD2. I also ran 3dmark05 and 06 with no problem. What do you guys think?

If it is a bad card should I have to down clock the mem for most games/applications that tax the card not just FEAR?

i had the exact same problem...everything ran great, but FEAR & Condemned wouldnt run properly...I underclocked a TINY bit (from 750 to 720 mhz) & they both ran just fine...will keep testing w/ these + 3dmark 06 until I know it's ok though...

It's the exact same problem my friend had (FEAR being the only game with problems). A new card fixed it.

Why should you settle for having a defective card?

I don't think anyone should settle for a defective card. I just put in my RMA for a new one, hopefully that will resolve the problem. I was told by one of EVGA phone rep that they are doing some type of modification with the new card to relieve this problem. We'll see.....

Just I found the solution to my problem. I was loading up a dvd in my computer and notice that power dvd was giving me a black screen. I then remembered that I had just loaded object dock (full version) and had the tab dock in the uppper left hand corner along with windows tool bar hidden up there. I then proceeded to move the tab dock down below and power dvd work again, I then tried FEAR again just to try my luck and good god it worked perfectly, I even overclocked the card to 580/1720 and everything to fine. If any of you guys have object dock you might want to have a second look, maybe it will solve your issue like it did mine. Late...

Update, it gave me some artifacts again. I then closed down the entire object dock program and it ran fine, ran object dock back up without the tab dock ran just fine. Must be the tab dock then....
