I've got myself a used Shuttle AN35N 400 and seem to be having trouble installing my operating system. Since it is used it only came with a manual, nothing else. Where do I get a FDISK to download so I can install my operating system. The manual is not very clear on this procedure and I have not done this before, help me please?

Just boot the OS CD and do the partitioning during the install. Any OS worth running (and some not) will let you do that.

It's an xp pro, yeah I did the normal boot to cdrom on bios and it initializes the process and normally it will reboot and finalize the instalation but it just keeps on booting to cdrom and starting over and over at the begining. Manual instructs me to insert a bootable floppy disk "which contains the FDISK and FORMAT utilities" that I do not have and have no idea where to obtain.

after you have the hard disk partitioned through the install process and windows xp installed, it wil reboot, make sure to REMOVE cd from cdrom. And then continue the installation.

You don't have to remove the CD, just don't hit anything when it ways "Press any key to boot from cdrom..."

not every motherboard gives that option though.

It's not a motherboard option, it's on the CD. The bootloader MS put on their CDs from Win2K and up makes you hit a key before it boots up to prevent you from booting them accidentally. The only time it boots directly in with no prompt is when you already have no OS on the machine.

Thanks guys, just got home from a hard days work. Will try your suggestions. It's just that when I installed the xp home on my first build and xp pro MCE '05 on my second build all I had to do is boot up on the cd rom and after I create the partition and does all the formatting it reboots and finalizes the installation. With this Shuttle an35n mobo it requires me to create a partion with the fdisk which I have not done before.

The procedure shouldn't be different for any motherboard, minus those that require extra drivers for things like SATA controllers.

Thanks Hyperblaze, I removed the disc from the drive and it rebooted to windows to finalize the installation as I type this reply. It asked for the disc back so I popped it back in and it should be done in about 25 minutes. And thanks to you too Nothinman, you're right, I have nerver had to remove the installation disc for the operating system to install. It could be that this mobo is older or something.
