Fdisk Problem

I have a problem using Fdisk. When it boots to A:\ I type fdisk and it comes up with the error saying "No fixed disks present". Anyone know why.

Make sure it shows up in the bios first. If all is well there boot off of a floppy startup disk, format the disk first use "format c:/s" after you format the disk run fdisk

3putt, I don't think he can format the disk before the disk is properly partitioned.

eddie, are you sure the hdd is properly mounted?? If you are sure the cables are all connected, and connected correctly, when you boot, go into bios, and the do the hdd detection, and make sure your hdd is detected. Make sure the size is correct and boot again. Now you should be good for fdisk.

It's rare, but also make sure there is no overlay software on the drive. I've only seen this happen once before, but it's worth looking into.

I just installed a drive last night so here's what I did.

Mounted drive, plugged in power and ide cable.
Booted into bios and set secondary slave on Auto.(Set yours according
to your situation).
Bios detected immediatley.
Booted into windows and could see the drive in explorer.
It was there but unaccessible.
Rebooted and went into command prompt only.
Started Fdisk, chose new drive, created primary dos partition.
Booted off of start up disk, formatted new drive and all is well.

Only problem I had was trying to do this while overclocking.
I had to clock back the chip to spec before I could get it done.

Hope this helps

Well all is good now, I had to change the order of the way things started up.

cdrom
harddrive
floppy

After I did that I went to A:\ and typed fdisk and it went. I formated then installed win98se. Thanks for the help guys 🙂
