I am working on this Dell dimen. 8100.
Originally had some stupid router problem, changed the email, then it didn't connect to net.
Owner reinstalled win2k 3xs, flashed the bios to bios xp2. computer loads, i can access bios no prob. put in a diff hd but it didn't work so he got a new 80 gig, win2k was loaded but hangs at startup.
I fdisked and the fdisk display shows the partition of the previous 12 gig hd that he had in there when he flashed the bios.
I ran fdisk /mbr. repartitioned. nothing changed.
Owner flashed bios again with the new 80 gig hd, and same old thing shows in fdisk.
I used another fdisk program fdisk 1.2.1, and It shows the almost correct hd partition information 78gigs. so i deleted partit and recreated part to show 78 gig. but the Microsoft Fdisk still doesn't show the right hd information when displaying hd, again it shows only 12 gig.
I have stripped it down to jsut essentials, ran delpart for NTFS, no luck.
Previosly, i ran the Dell diagnostics and everything on the system passed, i stopped it during the surface scan hd test. but it still had same fdisk and boot problem.
Same system supposedly had a virus 1 year ago on the Win ME install, it went away with the Win2k install.
I suspect a Bios eerprom virus or bootstrap. Please help, any suggestions
