Statement by Margaret A. Hamburg, Commissioner of Food and Drugs, on the Reopening of some Mississippi State Waters to Commercial Fishing
We are pleased to be able to support the state of Mississippi as it reopens state waters in the Mississippi Sound, from the mainland to the barrier islands, to commercial fishing. Through close coordination with our state and federal partners, we are confident all appropriate steps have been taken to ensure that seafood harvested from the waters being opened today is safe and that Gulf seafood lovers everywhere can be confident eating and enjoying the fish and shrimp that will be coming out of this area.”

I have heard first-hand from commercial fishermen and seafood processors about not only the importance of getting back to their livelihoods, but also their commitment to protecting the health of their customers and making sure consumers have the most up-to-date and accurate information available.”

The fishermen and processors in the Gulf want to know that all of the proper protocols and testing methods were used to ensure that the seafood is safe. FDA is supporting Mississippi in this reopening as it is clear that all the proper protocol and methods were indeed followed.”
We look forward to continuing to work closely with our partners in all of the Gulf states to reopen affected waters as quickly and safely as possible.

Good or bad? Is the food really safe, or is FDA bowing to political expediency? Normally, I'd say "no," but given the huge economic impact, I gotta wonder.

On another topic, I wonder how much the fish/shellfish population increased during the fishing moratorium?

I'm sure it's fine. The ridiculous regulations the FDA has in place for fish/seafood are out of this world and extremely strict. I'm surprised they even let me eat the fish I catch.

I hope you know the even fresh water lakes have oil leaking into them.

Its not fine. Lots of oil around mississippi. But for everyones amuzement I post this . I was LOL for sometime until my eyes played tricks on me . or the guy saying it often enough made me see whats not possiable . But my eyes are 45 years old. You watch it but towards the end I actually thought I seen what this guy is saying . What do you see.

As I just returned from the gulf area. With my own eyes I did see massive amounts of what appears to be military personnal.
Its also interesting that at around midnight last night there was a small earthquake in the area. . Could it be a befor shock of what Nemesis 1 has told me about . He is positive the New madrid fault is ready to pop. Memphis tenn. is doomed according to dave. He always said to me when he goes so goes millions of others.

All I know is whats being reported on the news isn't anything like reality and thats a fact . I have a few hours of work to do here . and I will upload onto utube our findings.

Keep in mind they haven't tested fish for dispersants and are still working on a way to test for those chemicals.

The dispersant is as safe as soap! The MSDS told me so!

The disperrents are far more toxic than oil is. And BP did a heck of a job dumping millions of barrels of it into the gulf in order to hide the magnitude of the oil leak...So i wouldnt trust any seafood from the Gulf for a few years.

I heard some Gulf area fishermen talking on TV this morning, not even they will eat that seafood. They don't think it's safe, and don't expect it to be for a couple of years.

Well, my grandfather and his friends never really stopped fishing around The Gulf Coast (Louisiana / Mississippi), not sick yet....

But, that is certainly not proof that it is safe. I surely would not eat it.
