I'm looking for a simple upgrade to a 440LX PC. Nothing
fancy really. It's currently running a P2/300 and all
I want to do is replace the CPU with a faster 633 or 700 MHz
FC-PGA C2; all at 66 MHz and no MP supported needed.
There are a few converter boards out there - Powerleap,
Abit, Soyo, MSI, Iwill, etc. The Powerleap seems to have
some issues. Does anyone have a recommendation/warning on
these new C2/FCPGA->Slot1 converters ?
TIA

lx chipsets will probably not run c2's. may even fry them dead.

c2's run at 1.5 or 1.65v. p2-300 probably runs at 2.8V

you see the problem?

The slockets that suppport P3/C2 have onboard voltage regulators
to supply the right voltage (plus incremental tweaking for OC use).

They don't have a voltage regulator, they just tell the mobo what voltage to supply. If you mobo won't supply 1.6v, it won't matter what your adapter is set at.

Had bad luck with the Abit,but have had good luck with the Asus and MSI adapters.

All adapters or just some of them ? Powerleap's PL-iP3 claims to have a power source for "older motherboards". They specifically mention the Intel 440LX motherboard in their product description, which is what I'm looking at upgrading. Unfortunately, the Powerleap discussion group shows that some problems do exist with the PL-iP3 so I'm looking to see if others are making a comparable adapter. I guess if other adapters do not have a built-in power supply, they won't work for me as you mention. Sigh ! Thanks !

Well, I can recommend the MSI Master 6905 rev 2.3. It likes to run at 133 just fine. I can't test it higher, as I have one of the old BH6s that only goes up to 133, and memory that is lucky to be doing 133 at CAS2.

Good luck,
