FCPGA missing pin...will it still work?

Hello guys, I was wondering if anyone knows if a missing pin off the back of a 933mhz Intel Pentium III socket 370 processor is going to render the CPU worthless. I bought it off some guy on ebay who said it was a never used oem cpu. Only one pin is missing. Is it necessary for all pins to be on for the cpu to work. I am waiting for my mobo to ship in so I will not be able to test the processor until then. I emailed the guy I bought it from, and his response was that not all pins are used and that its there to keep it in place. I don't know if I should accept his response (he supposedly teaches A+ certification class and hence had this extra cpu I bought). Does anyone know if he is telling the truth or giving me a BS response. TIA.
😕

It depends on which pin is missing. If you could get a pin configuration for that CPU you could match it up and figure it out.
However, it would just be easier to wait till you get the mobo and test it.

So, if i was able to successfully start up the computer with this CPU, and have it up and running, it will function without a hitch?

Check pentium 3 pin-out on p.68
Which one is the missing pin?

hojoasami possably, most chips have a few pins missing to make sure you don't plug them in backwards..
the AMD Athlon it very noted for this..
if you get a motherboard with a space that lines up to that pin your probably fine..

If your really worred about it find a reputable compter Tech shop and take the CPU to them and ask they shoud be able to tell you in less than 60 seconds..

other than that wait for the motheroboard to come in..

Based on the picture on page 68, it looks like pin D35 is missing. I can't find the function of that pin?

I actually got a friends motherboard to test out the chip, and it actually
worked. But, does that mean the chip will be stable?

I tried to get a refund on the chip, but the guy said that I broke it
(even tho he knew that one of the outer pin was missing in his response
back to me). What a bunch of crock!! Anyways, All I could do now is
leave him a negative feedback...what a bastard!

I appreciate all your responses..thanks!

It sounds like this is going to continue to give you grief. Whether or not the missing pin will have an affect on stability/performance/results, you will always be wondering if something is going to spontaneously break when you least expect it or can afford the down-time. Therefore, if I were you, I would chuck the CPU into the trash and purchase another one from a reputable dealer. CPUs are cheap, it certainly isn't worth spending a lot of time on or losing any sleep over. Chalk this one up to experience, and get on with your life!

Also, if you made the purchased from the ebay guy and paid for it with a US Postal Money Order and the seller misrepresented the item in *any* way, it becomes a FEDERAL FELONY for mail fraud and your Uncle Sam WILL track down and prosecute for you! (You get all this protection for less than a buck!) And if you didn't make the purchase with a US Postal Money Order, then you have learned how to protect yourself in the future; if buying from an "unknown", always use a US Postal Money Order!
