This is what happens before you declare martial law and take over the country!

Breaking News: Obama Orders FCC to Monitor News Rooms!

http://beforeitsnews.com/politics/2...orders-fcc-to-monitor-news-rooms-2599026.html

What is the difference between the US Federal Govt and a Communist Country? It is getting awful hard to tell!

If you compare this to how much arms and ammunition Homeland Security has purchased, it starts to become alarming.

It's more on it's way to Plutocratic Oligarchic Feudal Fascist Authoritative Totalitarianism than anything else. It seems political systems trend in that direction.

edit: the article is pretty lacking

But participation will be voluntary.*

* renewal of licensing not guaranteed should you choose not to voluntarily allow FCC researchers in your news room.

Well here's the research study for this:

http://transition.fcc.gov/bureaus/ocbo/FCC_Final_Research_Design_6_markets.pdf

It sound like observational work that any project would do to collect market data. Seems like they are looking at barriers to entry more than anything.

The objectives of the study are to help FCC answer the following questions:
• How does this study inform the acquisition and/or barriers to Critical Information Needs (CINs) in American
communities?
• What barriers to entry exist in the FCC regulated markets and to what extent do those barriers to entry have a negative impact?
• Do the tools/templates demonstrate a high degree of internal validity? Do the
tools/templates demonstrate a high degree of reliability across diverse target markets?

No outrage found. These types of studies are done very often by private and government institutions.

Hahaha, I love the ongoing paranoid obsessions of the right since Obama got elected. Remember the absolute guarantees that Obama was going to start a race war to prevent the last elections and seize power as infinite dictator for life? How many people swore up and down we wouldn't see an actual election? That Obama was comin' fer yer guns! How many *FEMA death camps!!!* stories do you need to freak out over before you realize you've been a rube and that Obama is a middle-of-the-road president, not some apocalyptic horseman?

I have a healthy distrust of government, irrespective of political party, tyvm. And there's a few thousand years of recorded history to back up that distrust.

It will certainly titillate an enlarged right amygdala.

They are not real news anyway.

Fox, NBC etc are labeled as Entertainment Organizations.

They just named themselves news.

They should be shut down and replaced with Department of Information.

If there is one person's ideology I will never understand on here it is his. Half the time he is complaining about how the government is crushing the little guy and the other half of the time he's talking about how he wants to give it more power.

I think he just likes to be contrary.

Published in the WSJ by a commissioner on the FCC, who was selected by Obama. I'd say it's credible.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajit_Pai_(FCC)

Do you know how FCC commissioner spots work? They are partisan political appointments that are explicitly done on a party basis. (ie: Mr. Pai was appointed explicitly because he was a Republican and a Republican had to go in his spot)

To look at it the other way, if one of Obama's Democratic appointments to the FCC wrote an op-ed saying that this was a total load of crap, how would you view it?

That's because it is not an ideology. I'm a realist.

Seriously instead of badgering the messenger try addressing the message for once.

There is no real news in the U.S. since the days of Walter Cronkite.

They are Entertainment for maximum adverting revenue.

There really should be a Department of Information with a council of ordinary citizens overseeing it making sure it stays 100% news.

He's still an FCC commissioner. He still knows the facts. Someone asked for another source. Well, here's a reputable source. Regardless of whether one agrees with his opinions, I'd say he's in a place to be able to accurately report facts.

Can anyone really deny the potential for abuse here? Can anyone deny that this blurrs the hell out of the line between government and the press?

I don't really view people appointed to commissions explicitly to be a partisan as particularly reputable or disinterested sources. I would be very interested to see what a nonpartisan source thinks about this, however.

The fact that all the facts about this are coming from partisan Republicans or ultra right news sources almost certainly means that the facts are not being accurately reported. (the same would be the case if it were DailyKos and the Democratic appointees)
