When I go to add remove programs it searches for an internet connection but this is in a non internet test environment, so i tjust fails and wont even let me open it. Anyway around this? I don't know why it would want the internet when I want to manage local packages.

yum looks for packages off of repositories on the internet.

you can use rpm to manage your packages locally.

he should be able to change where yum looks for packages, so he can still use it, but point it towards a local repo and keep it from looking online.

i dont know where this is, though, for FC8
in CentOS its under /etc/yum.repo.d/$repo.repo

this should be helpful in establishing a local repo if FC8 is similar enough to Cent, i didnt read it entirely, just skimmed it over. otherwise google for FC8 particulars.

I was not using yum, I was actually using the GUI in add remove programs, I was able to use rpm though, and browse to the CD and attempt to install(100+ dependencies needed).

If I can get the package manager to work then it will resolve depedancies.
