FC-PGA quick question

Okay, this is kind of a history lesson for me, but as I remember it the FC-PGA Intel procs were all multiplier locked and couldn't be manipulated. A company I just bought a 850MHz FC-PGA celeron from sent me a 900MHz part, but it won't work in my motherboard which only has an 8.5x multiplier. They e-mailed me back telling me it's just fine to run the 900 @ 850, but I thought I can't do that because the mobo doesn't support 9x and it's clock locked.

Before I start flaming this company for sending me the wrong product, am I right? Isn't the Celeron FC-PGA line all clock-locked? Or is there something I need to be doing with the mobo to make it work with the 900.... it doesn't even post or give video with this current 900 piece.

BookPC BKi810 mobo for those wondering

Its definitely clock locked... any reseller should know that (unless you got superficially lucky and they sold you an engineering sample).

But since you did receive a 900Mhz part, you may want to try and update the BIOS on your motherboard, see if it gives you a 9X clock multiplier and give yourself a free 50Mhz upgrade.

doesn't matter what multiplier setting you use on m/board, the cpu will always run x9 multiplier.
all you should need to do is set the fsb to 100 with the correct Vcore & bios & you should be set.

Have you checked to make sure that you have the 3.3A version of the BKI810? According to this BKI810 Bios page, there are two versions of the motherboard and the earlier 1.6A version does not support FC-PGA processors.

hth,

Okay, thanx, thought dem things were locked...

eplebnista - thanks for the info. My board has the Davicom and not the SYS lan controller, so I'm inclined to say it's the earlier version. I wonder what I should put in 'er then? Will ask some friends...
