Come on, people. Be reasonable. No, you don't need onstar, but the benefits vastly outweigh the fact that BigBrother might be spying on you. What are they going to do? Watch you drive to and from work every day? Who freakin cares.

Onstar isn't just a GM thing. Don't most of the mfg's use Onstar now? Also I'm sure you know the per month charges.
no...

Actually several different car manufacturers use Onstar. Lexus was using it (shown
here).

I can see why Onstar would be a bit pissed about this. If the FBI wants to eavesdrop on someone's car, they can put in their own goddamn bug.

They are going to drag Onstar's name through the mud if this becomes common. The government should not go out of its way to drive a legitimate business out of sales.

I stand corrected. Oops.

What makes all of you paranoid people think your're so special that the FBI is going to "spy" on you? This instance was in connection with a CRIMINAL case. No different thatn if the FBI had gotten a court order for wiretaps, or had video surveilance on the subject in question. You people seem to think that folks at the FBI are just gonna start snooping on you because they're bored or something. Give me a break. And those that don't like OnStar because the police may be able to tell how fast you were going in the event of an accident? Again, give me a break. If you weren't exceeding the speed limit, what difference does it make? And if you were speeding, then you should get whatever's coming to you if you have an accident.

Besides, if OnStar helps that stupid soccer mom get back into her locked SUV faster so I can have her parking spot, then it's a good thing.

Police don't use OnStar to track your speed. Every vehicle manufactured for sale in the US now comes with an onboard data recorder like in airplanes. I dunno why it's not used in court cases more often, but I've read court cases back when I was working with GM how people were put away for a long time for things like proof that the driver accel. for a good 5 seconds before nailing a pedestrian that just *happened* to be someone he hated.

Yeah, good book, great movie. What does that have to do with reality? I think it's time for you to get a new tin foil hat.

note to self.....dont get car with onstar.

Onstar is not just on GM's.

Onstar uses the Cellular Telephone Network which all of it is monitored, I repeat, all of it.

some of you guys are so damn scared of big brother its not funny.

hmm, vehicle tracking, how can it be useful???

oo wait, my car was stolen, call up onstar, call the cops, tell them where car is at. i think onstar guarenteed my dad that if within the first 3 months the car was stolen, they would recover it, or give him a new vehicle for free. i forget all of the details of that though.

why is the FBI going to monitor the conversation in your car? because they have nothing better to do? no, they will monitor it when you are being investigated. their jobs normally have more usefulness than neffing on atot.
