.357 is a real stopper but my bet is that you would be cuffed and on the floor before you realized what was going on. The FBI (as well as armed forces, police, homeland security etc) practice and design these entry's surprise and confuse suspects. Even if you happen to be sitting on your couch gun in hand, a handgun isnt going to do much against body armor, riot shields, and 10 man entry team amped up on adrenaline.

I suppose that could happen, I mean they would have to enter via window from the roof or have super speed that runs up a flight of stairs....or not use a chainsaw (that has to take 5-10 seconds)......

The point is not that I want to kill police, the point is that if I don't know they are police and I'm scared I will be shooting at whatever the hell just broke into my house. I hope to god that if SWAT accidentally breaks into my house and I shoot at them that I don't hurt anyone and they don't shoot me dead (but they will).

The point is that they not do no-knock and announce they are the police, that way both myself and the police are safe from any shooting.

If you are a law abiding citizen, you cannot assume that just because someone bangs on your door and yells "Police" that they are in fact the police. As a matter of fact, chances are, it isn't the police.

Ok so after they come inside are you going to tell them to hold on a minute while you wake up and determine if they're LEO or not?

Bottom line is, if someone is going to do a home invasion-style robbery (again, if they were only robbing you they'd wait until you were gone and do it during the day) they absolutely will do everything possible to make you think they're the police. They know you're a "law abiding citizen" who wouldn't shoot a LEO, and will take advantage of that. They WILL have swat vests, helmets, flashlights, and WILL be screaming "LAW ENFORCEMENT" as they kick down the door.

You are VERY VERY lucky if they only take your jewelry/cash/CC, and believe you when you tell them that's all you have, and rape any women in the house while they take you at gunpoint to an atm.

By the time you realize it's not LEO it is much too late to do anything about it.

The biggest factor to home invasions is that it's not about robbery. Seriously people, even semi professional burglars will empty your home during the day. No burglar will enter your home at night unless they've already planned to do more than just rob you.

Edit:

I'm not saying to shoot through the door, but I know that if someone enters my home I don't care who they claim to be, they are not the police. The ONLY exception is if there are clearly police cars outside with lights/sirens/etc and hopefully I have time to figure that out before they make it to my bedroom.

With your shotgun loaded with buck shot?

Buck shot? NO, 357 or 9mm? Yes.

My shotgun is locked up and in addition to that, if I had my shotgun out, I don't use buck I use Winchester PDX1 12-Gauge Shotshells. They are a 00 buckshot backed up with a slug.

I heard of that a while back, quite insane. Just shows what level the US authorities are ready to stoop to just to make themselves seem all tough and abuse their authority in a nazi like fashion. The little girl is probably going to be traumatized for a very long time, and so is the mother.

You know the US has gone to shit when authorities are arresting people that are innocent by breaking into their houses with a chainsaw.

The problem with putting bullets through the door, as appropriate as it may be, is that you will be charged with murdering a law enforcement officer.

Which is BS.

Figure out if the door is the right one before slicing through jesus fucking christ incompetent assholes.
