I'm just thinking of this through the eyes of a truly innocent person with a family in the house. If it's in the middle of the night and a chainsaw starts ripping through my front door I'm seriously concerned about the mental status and motives of the person on the other side. I'm not taking chances.

It's a disgusting abuse of authority that I should even be considered in the wrong for defending my family that given it's completely the wrong house and there was no warning or declaration provided to me as to who was on the other side.

This. If I see a chainsaw cutting through my door why the hell would I assume it's law enforcement? My first thought would be "Psychos!"

My point is you don't have to shoot blindly through the door. That's just stupid.

If you had a set of balls, you would get an eyeball on the person before shooting.

Alternatively, if you're scared you can fire a warning shot(s) - telling anyone that's in their right mind that if they walk over that threshold they'll be taking one. This also gives you the opportunity to vocally confirm the identity of the person.

Shooting through a door BLIND is just something a coward and a fool would do.

I never understood no knock warrants. They seem to love doing them in the middle of the night. Gee, a startled person who has a weapon in the middle of the night, I wonder what is going to happen. FBI needs to learn two things from this: make sure you are at the correct door... and knock.

I never understood it either. I guess the idea is that if they knocked, the drug dealers would have a 2 second head start ... to do what? Take two steps towards the back entrance which is likely covered by other SWAT officers?

What does balls have to do with anything? You are calling someone a coward for wanting to protect his family and home while an unknown assailant is cutting through the door with a chainsaw?

The problem with putting bullets through the door, as appropriate as it may be, is that you will be charged with murdering a law enforcement officer.

And at this point, how do you know its a law enforcement officer? this is the first I've heard of them using a chainsaw to cut through a door - I thought they usually used the handheld battering rams.

So if I saw a chainsaw blade coming through my door, the most rational thing I might do is fire a warning shot. After that you are getting lead.

Since when did they start issuing chainsaws to the FBI? Did Obama cut their budget already? lol

Seriously, you have to consider at least firing some warning shots if they're using a damn chainsaw. I wouldn't believe someone yelling "FBI" after using a chainsaw without seeing some serious identification. Also how do you get the wrong apartment any way? Whoever gave them the info had to have told them the apartment number or how to specifically get to the apartment. Yay for war on drugs.

I hope she sues their ass and wins.

Wrong appartement + no knock + chainsaw through her door + 30 mins on the floor with guns pointed at her.

I'd say she has an excellent case for psychological damage, and we need people like her to sue the government in order to fight the ridiculous war on drugs.

she sues we pay, it is a no win situation. Sucks when the people have no say in what their government does.

I think the anti-SOPA movement is a pretty good indicator of the fact that people DO have a say in what the gov. does. The question is how to get enough people to react to something like this to say no to no-knockers.

I wouldn't have a problem saying no to no knockers.

You have a say. Quit electing fuckers that subvert your rights. When you say "Candidate X is unelectable, so I'm going to vote for candidate Y", your fucking yourself, and getting the representation you deserve. Best of 2 evils isn't acceptable. Vote for those who support the country, and freedom. They're out there, and if people do the right things, they'll get elected.

The lady is lucky. If the situation was even a bit less ideal, she and her daughter might've 'disappeared'. :D

you are a idiot.

IF somone is useing a chainsaw to get through my door odds are they aren't there for tea. Not to mention do you think it would matter once they cross the threshold? they would be dressed as swat members. A innocent person is not going to be thinking ok its the FBI at the wrong house its all good. NO they will be thinking its a home invasion and shoot.

the FBI fucked up big time. I do think no-knock warrents should be only used in extreme cases. this was not one.

and why are they useing a chainsaw? that is fucking slow. thought they had faster ways to get in.

And yes, before you ask, I would absolutely shoot through the door. I've been shooting guns longer than half the people on this forum have been alive and know full well about target and backstop. That said, if I wake up, looked down the hall and saw a CHAIN SAW cutting down my door, I would shoot, no doubt! I'm not waiting for that chainsaw to get through the door and have me for a late night snack.

I hate people like you. I hope to hell your response was fashioned to get a rise out of people because you are exactly the reason why people want to ban guns.

Considering the outcome of this scenario (no deaths, but a few nightmares) and putting that into perspective, what would shooting at the door had solved? You don't know why someone has a chainsaw and is coming through your door, you are as idiotic as the police in blindly barging into the wrong apartment.

Unless you meant 'if you were a drug dealer with everything to lose and someone came through with a chainsaw' you would shoot at the door. In which case I misread what you wrote.

Fuck that! They had the wrong address and were unlawfully breaking and entering. Castle doctrine FTW.

Well, there's also the fact that the guy isn't going to just open up on someone he can't see. Look before you shoot.

Bullshit! I see a chainsaw going though my door, I'm opening fire.

Hell if my door gets kicked in I'm going to open fire. I'm not a criminal, so that kind of intrusion screams home invasion to me. Adrenaline and fear is going to make it really difficult to realize they made a mistake.

They better hope I can see police and they are screaming police.

ack, im 100% sure the FBI was yelling

FBI OPEN THE DOOR!!!
FBI OPEN THE DOOR!!!
FBI OPEN THE DOOR!!!
FBI OPEN THE DOOR!!! FBI OPEN THE DOOR!!! FBI OPEN THE DOOR!!!

ok fire up the chainsaw!

FBI OPEN THE DOOR!!! FBI OPEN THE DOOR!!! FBI OPEN THE DOOR!!! FBI OPEN THE DOOR!!!

so yea go ahead and start shooting. its all you pal.

Professional home invaders are known to do their invasions swat-style. This is why you often hear about how they have 'swat vests' and 'swat helmets'.. They kick your door down and scream FBI GET ON THE GROUND right before they tie you up and rape your wife and daughter in front of you, if not worse.

I live a legal, law abiding life. If someone kicks my door down for ANY reason I assume they are there to take my life or worse, and will react accordingly. I honestly don't care what they say or claim or anything else other than obvious police cars outside my home.

She says she was held face down on the floor at gunpoint for at least 30 minutes. Her 3-year-old daughter, meanwhile, cried in another room

How terrifying. :'(

For every one of these there are probably 2-3 real home invasions where terrible terrible things happen to the people that live there. You usually don't get the gory details through the media, but someone coming into your home at night IS NOT THERE TO ROB YOU. Burglars come in during the day when you're not home.

Seriously, I would rather get shot by police than even remotely risk going through what some of these families have to deal with.

Over the sound of a chain saw? They might as well yell ghost busters. No knock means no yelling before they break down the door.
