faxing?

Hi everyone. I don't fax that often but as we all know we all run into situations that we have to fax a form to a company. I probably only do this a couple of times a year. I don't really want to buy a fax machine for the few times i fax a year. What are my options here? First of all i don't want ads appearing on my faxes. Most of my faxes are to buisnesses and i wouldn't want that. I think maybe there are services which you can send faxes via the internet with email which is cool but i don't want to spend a monthly fee that all the ones ive seen charge when i only do a few faxes a year. Oh yes before i forget. I have VOIP service (viatalk). What are my options here?

thanks,
ncage

Can you use standard phones with your VOIP? If so, you could buy an external dial-up modem for your PC and connect it to the VOIP.

If not, either pay the monthly charge for eFax, etc. -or- drive to an office store or copy shop when you need to send a fax.

I have Vonage (VOIP).
I have XP.
I have an internal PCI dial-up modem.

When I need to send a fax, I connect the modem to the phone line (Vonage) and use XP to send a fax. It works fine.
It costs nothing unless the fax goes to another country (long distance).

My only problem is that I do not have many PCI slots. So, I am looking for an external modem to free up the PCI slot since i also only need to send a fax may be once every two months.

Break down and buy a fax machine---and maybe look on the used market--lots of inkjet type fax machines---look for one with its own internal modem that can do stand alone faxing. You don't even need the printer part working to send faxes---nor do you need expensive ink jet cartridges to send faxes. I have an old HP office jet I would give away free but shipping would kill you.

By the time you trot to an office supply store a few times to send a fax--add in the cost of gas--and the inconvience---and you are way ahead having your own.

Often you can find them on ebay sold without ink jet cartridges for pennies.

IMO there should be a website that charges like 20 cent per fax or something. I send faxes like 2 times a year or something and dont mind paying for it, but i dont want to pay like 20$ for a 50 time voucher.
