Remember to run phone line from Fax machine into the computer modem. (Simple common sense, but people forget to)Originally posted by: jakobkraft
If you're running XP Pro, there's fax software built in. To check if it's enabled go to Control Panel -->Add or Remove Programs -->Add/Remove Windows Components (on left side of screen).
Make sure Fax Services is checked - then you can send anything you want to fax to 'Print' and select 'Fax' as the printer - the rest is self-explanatory. Been using this myself for years since I hate installing unnecessary apps, works great.
(not sure about Vista though, but trying doing a similar search in Control Panel and see what turns up)

When you activate the Fax "printer", you may have to do some configuration.

Hmmm, but that requires having an actual fax machine.
