I am hoping this is the right forum. So I have a small work network I have created so that we can backup 4 computers and I use it as a print server. I just have it running windows 7 since it came on the machine. Since we had found ourselves getting a lot of faxes and going through a lot of paper and toner, I decided to see if I could move our fax situation to paperless.

I went out and got a 56k modem with fax ability. It is this one here :

http://www.zoomtel.com/graphics/datasheets/dial_up/3030_29211_spec.pdf

I hooked it up to the server and followed the directions on how to setup a fax server from the windows 7 help pages. I can send and receive faxes perfectly. However, when I try to connect to the fax modem from another computer, it does not find the fax modem. I type in the name of the server address i.e "\\SERVER-PC\Local Fax and nothing. I have tried every name and such, but nothing.

I have sharing of everything allowed on the server. One of the help pages said I could go to "devices and printers", and that my modem should be there to share, but it does not show up.

Anyone familiar with this setup? All computers are running windows 7. The server is running windows 7 ultimate, the rest are running home premium.

Some of the fax Modem card can share many do not.

You are much better of getting an inexpensive Network capable AIO printer and use its faxing capabilities trough the network.

I tried that with an all in one, and I couldn't get the Windows Fax to recognize any of the aio printers we have. I tried installing all the drivers and updating them, and nothing. For instance, one of our printers is an AIO Dell 1815dn. I installed everything, and when I go to devices and printers, then right click, it has the share box greyed out. Same with the HP printer we have. They both say network capable on the box.

Does anyone know of a inexpensive fax modem that is sharable on a network? I have been searching, but fax modem searches don't have very good reviews. A lot of the searches bring you to companies too.
