Fax advertising is suck.

Eug

Lifer
Over the last several weeks, I must have gotten 25 pages of spam through my home fax. As far as I'm concerned, faxed advertisements should be illegal. The fax ad people access my fax machine without my permission and waste piles of paper that I have to pay for. :|

Companies take note: I refuse to buy any product or service that I see on a faxed advertisement, just out of principle, regardless of the price. Others I know follow the same philosophy. Why? Because just the fact that you advertise by fax suggests to me that either: 1) You are a fly-by-night company AND/OR 2) You have no respect for your customers.

Oh wait, maybe there is a plus side to faxed ads. They tell me which companies to stay away from. :|

Oh FVCK! I didn't even know places were doing this. Regardless of what a person thinks of spam this is bullsh*t. I'd be infuriated and call back the company asking them to refund me the price of the paper and ink, seriously what a pain in the ass. I would most definitely not buy anything by a company that was pulling this.

I hat ethem too. I see them at worj every so often. Though i do like the occasional joke faxes

Really? Fax advertising is illegal? I get tons at home too! I have no idea how the companies get my phone number, cuz my # is unlisted! And I have a seperate phone line for the fax machine too!

Unsolicited fax advertising is illegal.

Relevant codes are 47 U.S.C. § 227 (b)(1)(C) and 47 C.F.R. § 64.1200(a)(3). This includes any advertising material promoting the "commercial availability" of any goods, property, or services that is transmitted without the recipient's "prior express invitation or permission." 47 U.S.C. § 227(a)(4); 47 C.F.R. § 64.1200(f)(5).

However, if there is a "existing business relationship", that can be deemed to reflect the recipient's permission to send a fax with a commercial message. The rules define an "established business relationship" as: "a prior or existing relationship formed by a voluntary two-way communication between a person or entity and a residential subscriber with or without an exchange of consideration, on the basis of an inquiry, application, purchase or transaction by the residential subscriber regarding products or services offered by such person or entity, which relationship has not been previously terminated by either party."

If your company or organization receives any unsolicited fax advertisements, the BBB suggests:

1.If the company sending the fax has an 800 number or a return fax number, send them a fax and demand that your company be removed from their list. Don't be persuaded by their plea that it originated elsewhere (i.e." a Wholesaler/Broadcaster did it&quot😉. If it has their name on it - it's their responsibility. Tell them that if you receive any future faxes, you are going to report it to the FCC.

2.If the company ignores your request, report them to the FCC Common Carrier Bureau, Consumer Complaints, Mail Stop Code 1600A2, Washington, D.C. 20554 or call the FCC at (888) 225-5322.

Hmmm... I live in Canada. I wonder if it's illegal here too.

I'm afraid to call them up and remove them from my list because the last time I did that I started getting MORE (albeit not from them specifically). FSCK!

However, I will make a list of everyone I've received unsolicited faxes from and submit it to the BBB.

Spam e-mail and spam faxes are actionable (civil and criminal) in certain states. I had to do a whole report on it for my client regarding federal and state law.

Do they have a toll-free fax number? If so, you can always give them a taste of thier own medicine.

<You didnt hear this from me>

Take a few pieces of paper and tape them together real circular-like. Place your fax machine so that the paper can rotate through it freely. Then use thier toll-free fax number to fax them (thier own spam) for a night or a weekend. See how they like it.

If they have a return fax number, go to a public phone with your laptop, use your computer fax to send 30 completely pitch-black pages to their fax.... that oughta do it 😉

haha xaigi and tagej you dirty bastards 🙂 That ink one is a very good trick as well - the only problem is finding a machine that you can use so that you don't take the blame...the best of course would be to loop 3 black pieces of paper together, and perhaps white-out on the otherwise black background saying "STOP SENDING ME YOUR CRAP"

It really is horrible. Unwanted under any condition, but since we switched to a plain paper w/film cartridge--very expensive too 🙁

It is even more fun if you use black paper.
