Favre: how good is he?

He played in an era or QB's, from Fran Tarkenton, Roger Staubach, Ken Stabler, Joe Theisman and Terry Bradshaw (just before his time) to Joe Montana, Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Dan Marino, John Elway and Jim Kelly (year of the QB, who can forget) to todays young studs.

where does Favre rank? is he a first ballot HOFer? his streak of 200 games started straight puts him in for sure. his 1 superbowl win helps.

it's tough to rank Favre. he's obviously not Bradshaw, Aikman or Montana (they of the many super bowls). he's not Marino or Elway (altho elway did get some superbowls at the end of his career).

if favre had not won a superbowl he would probably be thought of as the same as jim kelly.

favre is interesting because he was good but not great for a long long time.

i think Favre will be a first ballot HOFer. while he was not the best he was always ranked up there with them. IF he had a better supporting cast he would have won a few more i think.

Oh this is comeing from a Bears fan! I HATE greenbay. but do have to admit that Favre is great. One of my favorite QB's out.

being from WI I can't really say. My opinion is very biased. He is one of the greatest things to ever happen to the packers. I just wish they could have gotten their sh!t together a couple more times and won a few more superbowls.

First ballot, no doubt. One of the greatest ever. This is coming from a 49ers fan, and we don't take to kindly to the Packers.

He's a great QB. He plays through everything from injuries on the field to his father's death and perscription drug addictions off of it. First ballot HOF no doubt. The most exciting QB for a long time second these days to maybe only Mike Vick.

First ballot hall of famer and in the top rank of all time QB's without a doubt.

And I am in no way a Packers fan, nor have I ever been. GO EAGLES!!

problem for favre is there are many qb's ranked ahead of him in my opinion.

Montana, Elway, Marino, Staubach, Bradshaw, Aiken, Young, Peyton just to name a few off the top of my head all rank ahead of him. ok, mb peyton is a long shot, he will have to keep it up for another 10 yrs, but favre at his absolute best was not as good as peyton is right now.

Definately think Farve deserves a First ballot but I have to disagree with you about exciting. Manning and Culpepper aren't exciting? They are a hell of a lot more exciting to watch than Vick is this season.

you left out McNabb who is also as good as Culpepper.

favre won a superbowl and big games.
manning has yet to prove he can.

im not saying he wont, but he needs to start winning some big games.

No way is McNabb as good as Culpepper. No way.

Yep, minus the Eagles part.

I think part of the reason people like Favre so much is that you can tell he is actually enjoying himself out there. win or lose he looks like he is haveing a good time.

one of the greatest ever in my opinion. Sure he only won one super bowl, but that's not entirely his fault. If he had won more, then he could be arguably the best ever with the supporting casts that he has had. But since he's only won one, he's "only" one of the greatest.

I thought San Francisco was famous for it's Packers... 😉

I think he's pretty good. There are many I'd put ahead of him. Of those currently playing I'd take Peyton Manning and Tom Brady over him.

Hehe. Coming from a Packers fan, I despise the 49ers but acknowledge that the greatness of Montano, Young, and Rice. All those years of meeting the 49ers in early round playoffs...

I'm hugely biased, but Favre is still one of the greatest of all time. How can you say he hasn't been great for a long time? Under Favre, the Packers have NEVER had a losing season. He's the only 3 time MVP. Packers have made the playoffs nearly every single season under him. And he's STILL playing top 5 QB caliber right now.

If anything, I say people take for granted how great he has been because he's played great for his entire career. And this has been done all w/o a star WR or RB. Sterling Sharpe and Dorsey Levens? Uhh.... He has Javon Walker and Ahman Green now but they're no Julius Irving and Emmit Smith.

He is definately up there with the greats. It has to do with what he has done with the team. No matter who he has around him, he always excels. That is the mark of a true QB. I've never heard him complain about the players around him not doing their jobs or not catching balls. He goes out there and gives 100% no matter what. That is a good QB.

Two things come to mind when I think of Favre.

1. Would he be anything if it wasn't for the offensive line playing good for him?

2. He has a tendency to get injured.

200 consecutive starts.

you and i must have a very different idea of "tendency to get injured"

Just think about it... tendency to get injured and still play 200 consecutive games. Just think...
