Favorite video game Soundtracks

So what's your all time favorite video game soundtrack?

Mine is the soundtrack from Hitman: Blood Money written and composed by Jesper Kyd. I also like the soundtrack from Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. 🙂

Most of these aren't PC games but I figured it doesn't matter for a thread like this.

Megaman 2/3/X
F-Zero X/GX
Unreal Tournament ('99)
Super Mario Galaxy
Diablo 2
Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2
Some of the tracks in WotLK are excellent: Dragonblight piano, Howling Fjord, Grizzly Hills, Northrend Transport (boats to and from Northrend) to name a few.

Tons more, I could make the list really long.

Total Annihilation (Anything with Jeremy Soule, really)
Supreme Commander (original, again, Jeremy Soule)
Final Fantasy IV

Not to hijack, but what do you guys hear about the Mirror's Edge soundtrack. I here it is supposed to be real good....Does that belong in this thread? 😀

I liked the Diablo 2 soundtrack a lot. Especially the track "Coda" which is the theme from Tristram. Quite beautiful actually. I think Blizzard typically has pretty good music in their games.

Morrowind & Oblivion

I really liked the music from F16: Flying Falcon. It's an old game and the music was all in MIDI format, but it was great stuff if you had a sound card capable of more than squeaky fake MIDI instruments. 🙂

The Witcher.

It's not even a contest.

Mass Effect was really good, but it just can't hold a candle. The Witcher's OST is one of the best to come out in years.

While Morrowind's music was tops for orchestral style (usually filled with John Williams wannabees), the soundtrack for Grim Fandango has to be my favorite. Amazingly well played jump blues-ish, done with a host of good horn players. Took me years to find a copy of the two CD soundtrack set for that.

Gothic 3 has an incredible orchestral soundtrack. It's worth playing just for the music.

Also

Tomb Raider (the original). Love that main theme and the musical snippets that happen during the game.

The music that plays during the opening sequence of FEAR is awesome. Ominous and building, but somehow sad at the same time.

As mentioned before, all of Jeremy Soule. I don't think he did Baldur's Gate, but I would throw that in as well.

The music from Starcraft and the Galactic Civ games. Some might consider it dorky, but I like it.

Final Fantasy X has some really good songs.

Michael Hoenig did Baldur's Gate II - also very good. It was a PITA to find the soundtrack, too...
