Favorite text adventures?

I started playing text adventures again a few months ago. So far, I've played around in the Zork games, Dragon World, and another one that was really hard... I haven't beaten any of them yet.

I found them at the-underdogs.org. Let me know if I shouldn't link to that site. Any suggestions or favorites?

What's a text adventure?

They're games like Riven or Myst, except it's all done through text. You enter commands like north, west, east, south, look, talk, etc. to interact with objects.

I once tried to make my own a while back (last year). After about a month of work, I realized that I was in way over my head. As with most of my projects, I started over, lost the file, and never really got started again.

I actually do that a lot too. I have tons of unfinished projects ranging from failed attempts at programming to website designs. I delete them after a few months.

the old BBS doors like Tradewars, Solar Realms Elite, Barron Realms Elite. Pimpwars was always fun to play too.. 😛

Might one say they...'frustrated' you?

I think I played all of the text-only Infocom adventures except Moonmist and Witness. My favorite by far was Planetfall, although Enchanter is a close second.

I enjoyed Starcross (another Infocom adventure) - I even had the "collectors edition" that cam packaged in a white plastic space saucer (wish I had kept it - saw an intact one go for >$150 on eBay!!!!!!)
