Lifer
what are your favorite song remakes (compared to their originals)?

mine:

the get up kids - alec eiffel (original is by the pixies)
gary jules - mad world (original is by tears for fears)

Portrait - How Deep is your Love
All 4 One - I Swear (Uh...some country singer)
Angelina (or whoever it was) - Tide is High (Blondie...or John Holt before that)
Some random rave music - Imagine (I love the original but the rave version is just ridiculous)
Az Yet - Hard to Say I'm Sorry (Original is also good)

Uh...those are all I can think of offhand

Fudge Tunnel - Cat Scratch Fever (Ted Nugent)

Fu Manchu - Godzilla (Blue Oyster Cult)

Troggs - Good Vibrations (Beach Boys)

Yardbirds - Im a Man (Muddy Waters)

Rolling Stones - Love In Vain (Robert Johnson)

Concrete Blonde has done a bunch of great covers:
* "Ship Song" - Nick Cave (Heather Nova's version is also good, as is Cave's own of course)
* "Beware of Darkness" - George Harrison
* "Everybody Knows" - Leonard Cohen
* "End of the Line" - Roxy Music
* "Little Wing" - Hendrix

Bryan Ferry (/Roxy Music) has done some nice ones too, including a bunch of old jazz age standards
* "Jealous Guy" - Lennon
* "Sympathy for the Devil" - Stones (a not quite serious version)
* "These Foolish Things"

Jeff Buckley did such a good job on Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" many people don't know it's a cover

Same with Rod Stewart's "First Cut is the Deepest," which is actually a Cat Stevens song.

Die Die My Darling - Metallica (orginally done by misfits)

Apparently, back in the late 70's early 80's Metallica earned their money redoing misfits and danzig songs...

Alot of the stuff from the garage inc. album is really good, except tuesdays gone. That remake sucks soooo bad.

Elvis did the original "can't help falling in love"
i LOVE the way Eels covered it.

Creedence Clearwater Revival, "Heard it through the Grapevine" (Marvin Gaye)
Black Crowes, "Hard to Handle" (Otis Redding)
Tool, "No Quarter" (Led Zeppelin)
