favorite rpg

It's hard for me to think of one, because my favorites also have big flaws.

Dungeon Siege you mention - I played the first and thought it had the worst grind of any RPG I have played, though Dragon Age gives it a run. It just went on and on.

I really liked Betrayal at Krondor series at the time - not sure how it's seem now.

I had fun with old D&D RPG's, but they're basic and the idea of drawing maps on paper now, forget it. Not too tempted to do them again much - just a little.

I loved Might and Magic 6, but again it'd seem pretty primitive and hard to play now.

Loved Legend of Grimrock, but it's more a puzzle game and I didn't want to replay much.

My favorite I'd say are MMO's - the scope is quite big.

I got started on Skyrim and mean to go back to it, but it didn't grab me that much yet.

I like games like Divine Divinity and Arx Fatalis, but haven't played them in years. Also need to play the new Divine Divinity game.

One more on the list, ok two I barely started - ok 3 - Anachronox, that 'steampunk' one what is it called, and Planescape. Ya, I know. Overdue. Does the Deux Ex series count?

Been meaning to get past the first part of the first Deus Ex also, and try the rest.
 
Not even close. Planescape: Torment is the greatest RPG of all time. "What can change the nature of a man?"

Plenty of other good ones though.

Final Fantasy VI & VII
Betrayal at Krondor
 
Sorry to say this but if you consider Dungeon Siege an RPG then you're not really looking for RPGs. It's sort of like saying "my favorite sport is bungee jumping".

Games like Dungeon Siege, the Diablos, Titan Quest, etc. are a subset of RPGs sometimes called "loot generators", where you basically just mindlessly run around clicking to get loot. A session usually goes like this...

CRPG: Planescape Torment
RPG: Baldur's Gate 2
ARPG: Diablo 1. 2 and 3 expand the game, but the original has by far the most amazing environment of all IMO.
 
although i loved the first wasteland to no end, i have to say my fav RPG of all time is Champions of Krynn.
 
If I'm listing favorites of all time, and not "rpg's I want to replay" (which isn't the same list)...also, skipping all but pc games

2 planescape:torment
3 temple of elemental evil
4 vampire the masquerade- bloodlines (i think was the correct 1 of the 2 games, always get the titles mixed up)
5 arcanum
6 bg1
7 pool of radiance (original, commodore 64 version)
8 betrayal at krondor
9 daggerfall
10 morrowind

If I kept going, then games like divinity - original sin, kotor, icewind dale, and more would show up. I tried just keeping it to my all time top 10 though

Dungeon Siege, I understand. It was a grindy action dungeon crawler with stats. But Dragon Age Origins wasn't grindy at all. It wasn't a dungeon crawler. Perhaps some are just used to the single corridor CoD style level design? Dragon Age 2, on the other hand . . . :colbert:

My personal favorites haven't changed, though the specific order does vary depending on life and what I'm hankering for at the time.

Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate 2, Skyrim, Mass Effect, Dragon Age Origins are usually my top RPGs. Once I get around to playing more of it, I hope to add Original Sin to that list, as well as Pillars of Eternity and Numenara.
 
Dragon Warrior IV was my favorite, but there are a slew of great RPGs. The Witcher 2 is probably the best RPG I've played, followed by Baldurs Gate 2. Final Fantasy 2-6 are all really fun, and I still play them today when I get bored (the later ones weren't that good). I've probably played Never Winter Nights the most, as I have purchased the game at least four times (I moved often, and I kept losing my disks). Dragon Age was pretty good too.

Edit: I completely forgot about Divinity Original Sin! That game is really good too! It reminds me of Ultima 7, but with a much better UI.

Without a doubt, Planescape: Torment.
Story, Lore, Music, Gameplay, Weirdness, Everything.
Can be found on GOG too.
 
wiz 8 was a lot of fun still replay occasionally.
DKS was a lot of fun need to replay
BG 2 was a lot of fun but the graphics are really dated now but still might replay

I guess those three are my current list. D:OS was fun but had a lot of story issues and quest bugs.

I actually like Dungeon Siege 1 because it was such a great dungeon crawler. Had lots of fun with it.
But its not an RPG.

My overall favorite to this day is probably Deus Ex. For not only the story but the relatively good acting, the excellent levels, decent skill/XP system, and genuinely deep gameplay.

BG 1 and 2 are excellent, especially with the remakes now on Steam.
KOTOR 1 and 2, though we are still missing 3.

Impossible, because Dragon Warrior IV was the greatest RPG of all time.

Also great are Phantasy Star IV & Final Fantasy IV.

In the related category of games that have rpg elements, Borderlands Series, Mass Effect Series, and Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 show up for me.

Nice. I started playing the Gold Box series with Pool of Radiance, but Krynn was the first one I actually completed (and eventually re-played, several times, with different party members) and was my top favorite as well. I ended up completing both the Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms series. I actually started a new game of Krynn maybe about two years ago on DosBox with the plan of re-completing the whole Dragonlance series. I've gotten through maybe 20% of the first game when I got distracted and never got back to finish it.

From the more recent years, I really loved playing Dragon Age: Origins, and I think it was successful in capturing the fun of old-fashion, turn-based tactical RPG (while giving an option to just put everything on auto and forget about it) and providing us with a great story. I only finished the story once, but that's because there are six origins and I just had to try them all and when the story converges I left that character to try a different one.

I also still love WoW even though I haven't played for a long time, and will probably come back to play it when this next expansion comes out. Well at least for a month or two.
