Well I just recently got married on the 24th of July and my wife and I are looking to relocate. We have already moved once, from VA to MS, but the contract that I was supposed to be working on was delayed for a few months. The way my job is, i can basically just fly out from any airport to commute so it doesn't really matter what city we are in We are now looking for a new place because believe it or not, Mississippi sucks...hard.

If you guys could pick any place in the states to live, regardless of employment opportunities and cost of lviing where would it be. We are currently exploring Northern Virginia and Naples Florida. Please help us out and tell us why you like the area!

Naples is nice, not sure if Id want to live there (maybe when retired). Im in NO VA right now. I really like the area and I think DC is a cool-ass city to live near. Its freaking expensive here though. I would recommend austin tx. cost of living is cheap in texas and austin has a lot of character. id stay away from the rest of texas tho. i wouldnt bother in the south or midwest and i havent spent much time on teh west coast. i do like the new england area too. NO VA and naples are two of the fastest growing areas in the country. be prepared for a lot of growth. it sounds like you are in a really unique position to travel and see the country. if i were you i would be moving every year or so :)

san antonio is too hot in the summer. cost of living is good, though. Good town to raise a family, but if you're single, there's not a whole lot to do. Austin and Dallas are better suited to singles.

edit: we have family in the twin cities area, arkansas, & california. If I had to move, it would be the twin cities area.

If you don't mind going clear across the US, San Diego, Ca is nice...that is if you like the 70 degree-sunny everyday-no humidity type place to live.

I would not recommend Southern VA. There are 0 jobs here. The cost of living is relatively low, however. Northern VA is supposed to be better though.

I'd love to live in the Williamsburg area, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon.

You do have nor-easters though.
No Hurricanes?
No Smog?
And I'm sure you're not fireproof ;)

At least Floridians can admit their shortcomings ;)

<-- moving to Hawaii in 10 months :D

honestly thats the first time ive heard about smog in NE, i guess a lil is expectin in Boston, cant be anywhere near as much as say LA tho

and yes we get hurricanes but they are rare and by the time they get here they are just like a bad thunderstorm, not the 100+ MPH winds that florida gets, and the last one was 13 years ago

in my 23 years i dont recall a forestfire of any considerable size
and a Nor-easter is just a big storm, its a fart in the wind compaired to a tornado or hurricane of any catagorie

I agree. I'm starting graduate school at UT Austin next year. I've spent a lot of time there and I think it's a great city. You get all them amenities of a big city with the character of a much smaller city.

Wisconsin kind of sucks :).
I guess Madison/Bay Area/La Crosse aren't too bad, but winter gets old fast.

Colorado Springs, Colorado. Gorgeous mountains, good weather (occasional snow falls, not as bad as you think), Skiing, hiking....

Not Northern Virginia! Stay away from the D.C area. Too many people and too much traffic.

Chicago is my vote for a major city. It's got a friendly feel, lots to do, and it's just a fun place.

The Portland area is probably the prettiest place I've ever lived, but it's got a small, restrictive feel to it that never made me comfortable. I also never saw it in the winter.

My inlaws are moving to a small town outside of Colorado Springs. They absolutely love it there, so we've been considering moving there too. Just wish there was a good college there...

toekramp, what part of MS are you in? I am an unfortunate resident of this state as well. Take me with you when you leave!! LOL...(if you don't mind my family tagging along). :D
