I'm trying to get an idea as to what kind of site the public likes... personal sites that is, such as a blog, or personal information page. I really want to put one up for some reason... (no idea why, really) and I have had a domain for a while now, http://www.geekdrew.net, I just need to figure out what content I want on the page... what layout I would like to present it in, and what content management system to use (if any - may well be manual edit).

So... any good websites out there that I could take advice from? I've browsed around some 'Favorite Website Links' sites... but they haven't helped me at all.

Thanks!

Drew

I don't give a crap about anyone's blog or personal web site. The only blog I EVER look at is run by the lead developer of one of Apple's software products (Safari browser), and I only look at it cause he posts about bug fixes and stuff that he's completed.

There's not going to be any porn anywhere within the domain... and notfred, I love how useful your post was.

Sorry. Felt like being sarcastic. You'll live.

You asked what we liked, then got offended when I told you. Why do people always do that?

1) I'm not offended. 2) I believe that the question was:
So... any good websites out there that I could take advice from?
In my mind, the statement that would be associated w/ that question would be "Please give me any good websites that I could take advice from". Did I ask for your opinion of blogging and personal websites in general? No, I didn't. I'm not mad or even upset about your response though. I just felt like picking on someone for making a useless post :-/

One place you could start looking is the Eatonweb Portal which is a list of blogs by category (some with reviews or comments), but a lot of blogs have personal sites wrapped around them. A lot of the ones on the standard blog/diary hosting sites look very similar, but if you look beyond those, you can find some very interesting and appealing examples of web design.

Well, then what did you mean by this?

I'm trying to get an idea as to what kind of site the public likes...

I guess by "the public" you meant "anyone but notfred" or "anyone who finds blogs interesting"?

I like personal hobby sites.. All your projects put up there and what you did and how you did it.
