I'm definitely a big fan of Highly Suspect (new band). Really strong debut album. Very close to Royal Blood in strong debut albums in my mind:

Bloodfeather

The Highly Suspect is pretty dang good...Vocally it reminds a bit of J. Roddy Walston and The Business, a little heavier sound but that's a good thing.

My choice isn't really going against the grain as he won some awards, but I was a fan long before:

Chris Stapleton - Traveller (The whole album is great)
I don't usually like country but this has that old school sound and he has some killer chords.

To answer the OP, I think the newest music I have is from 2014 (an Against Me! album). I want AFI's "Burials" too though that's from 2013, lol. I haven't really been into new music for several years, and even then it was just keeping up with new releases from artists I already like. I haven't seeked out new artists in a long time. I guess I don't listen to a ton of music and the stuff I do listen to is mostly from the 90s or early 2000s anyway.

About a month ago, I discovered Rebelution. Wow, what a band (California/reggae). Think Sublime, but better.

Agreed, I am just getting into the Avicii album True which is from 2013. But i am over 30 so i am closed off from even listening to most new music.

Mark Knopfler - Traveller (Rock / Folk-ish)
Great album, phenomenal guitar player.
